PBS tries to intellectualize "Stan" culture, focuses on Barbz

PBS seems to take "Stan" as literally DANGEROUS fans. What do you think of this assessment? The Barbz truly ARE so entertaining. Their vids about the #1 have been giving me life lol

Dayum, they are an advanced civilization. When Freaky Girl dropped they were requesting the song on every radio station across the US, had a TikTok dance challenge, AND created a banking system to send money to people to buy the song. I was FLOORED.

I've always considered stans to be the ride or dies. I don't consider the psychos to be stans, I don't even consider them fans. Yes, I know stans originates from Eminem's "Stan" where he was in fact a psycho, but stans have evolved past that.

For me it goes, GP (locals), fans (casuals), stans (ride or dies).

I remember when the Britney Army was that united.  But then Jordan announced BreatheHeavy and Exhale would do ALL pop culture and the Army fractured into divisions. It worked out for the site in the long run, but the fanbase itself has never recovered.

Completely agree. PBS clearly does not understand the millennial irony behind the term “stan.”
