Twitter/X will be banned in Brazil after failing to meet a deadline set by a Supreme Court judge to name a new legal representative in the country.

Alexandre de Moraes ordered the "immediate and complete suspension" of the social media platform until it complies with all court orders and pays existing fines.

The row began in April, with the judge ordering the suspension of dozens of X accounts for allegedly spreading disinformation.

Reacting to the decision, X owner Elon Musk said: "Free speech is the bedrock of democracy and an unelected pseudo-judge in Brazil is destroying it for political purposes."

The platform is expected to be unavailable in the country within the next 24 hours.

The social media giant says it refused to comply with a judge's order to appoint a legal representative.

Brazil has its own laws and everyone here must follow
Musk has closed X offices in Brazil and there's no responsible for it
Supreme court asked them to nominate someone and they didn't

He probably loves it, just another opportunity to pander to his new demographic of reactionaries, conspiracy theorists and right wingers and make them believe he's this ostracized billionaire victim. Twitter has become unusable since the flopped rebrand, divisive content and hate has become inescapable on that app... Good news for Brazilians mental health in my view.

A country banning social network because they dont like that people can say whatever they want. Yeah im sure its elon's fault.

Zuckerberg literally just admitted he was spreading misinformation on facebook because biden-harris administration threatened him. Government should stay out of people's personal lives and freedom of speech.

I disagree. There must be regulation by the government, the problem is: what will be the truth? Here, the left-wing government tends to be more coherent. I'm even talking about Britney. In 2007 everyone in Brazil attributed her collapse to illicit dr**s, she was very humiliated, I remember fighting against a room of 40 people + teachers to talk about mental health, I mean, people were not educated to be competent in acquiring information.

In the last election the right said that we would become communists, churches would be closed and several other lies. The reality: Brazil rising position in the economy, unemployment lower than in 2012 breaking record, poverty decreasing... anyway. The extreme right and Elon's followers live on lies.
