This video explains sales don't make an artist a legend, and he explains why.

So in the stan wars of Twitter, as that's big over there.

People use sales or chart positions to say this artist is a legend.

People dragged Dionne Warwick or eartha kitt saying so many albums but where's their platinum plaques.

I know @Blackout2006 and @I Always Sing Live want to explore the discography of prince or david bowie but with 40 to 50 albums, it's like where do i start.

This video explains why they have more albums.

The whole 4 year or two year wait for new albums is still technically new.

In the 40s to late 80s, it was the standard practice to record 4 albums per year, and as he states, you might be lucky if the occasional greatest hits album happened..

This is why so many acts might have flopped because of the hard ware is missing but the industry then would force an artist back in the studio once the radio moved on, so two to 3 months later a new album emerged to keep the public happy and the artist relevant and money rolling in.

So in order to just go gold in the 50s you had to sell a Million, that was even hard.

Platinum album was introduced in the 7ps after the success of Goodbye yellow brick road, but multi platinum wasnt created til the late 80s.

And before 1989. To go gold as a singke, the song had to sell a million copies, and to go platinum you had to sell 2 Million.

That was a rare feat. When doves cry by Prince was the only one to do that.

Selling a Million singles was much easier. Hint why in 1989 they changed the criteria to match the album certs.
