It was supposed to be centered around rebirth, Britney was supposed to be having a funeral for herself (the death of her blonde pop superstar persona) and be reborn as the brunette **** dark vixen.

The video was allegedly supposed to have blonde Britney be snuffed out by brunette stripper Britney so she can take over.

The whole thing (as well as the era) was inspired by Elvis as well. There was a photo of Elvis framed in the club setting and this:

I think it just wasn't an ok video for them to release at the time because the concept was dark (the Everytime suicide ending was also scrapped / Born to Make You Happy pregnant storyline) plus 2007 wasn't exactly the best for her image wise and mentally so maybe they have a lot of great ideas but weren't executed very well due to Britney being a loose cannon outside of the recording studio. It's a mystery how the album itself came to be flawlessly executed but everything else was half assed / incomplete.

the original GM video would've probably been my favorite video of her's ever, but it's ok bc the released gimme more video is my favorite too

The point of seeing the rehearsal footage? Personally, I’m not anticipating (REFERENCE) that we’ll see anything even slightly different than what we saw go down live. If anything, she’ll probably look a bit more polished and fluid. I just want everything there is to see from that fateful evening, including THIS dress rehearsal…with a ponytail.

It was completed, we know Britney did shoot additional scenes that weren't used for the final video. Apparently the video was supposed to be about rebirth or something.
