there were 7 people in front of me by then, but only 4 had the side i was on.

You get in the line.

Some people have right, some have left. 

Around 7-ish, they come around and give you wristbands. 

Different color depending on what side you are on. 

Then after they let you in, the left side goes to the left, right goes to the right.

There is another line that you wait in there and then when they finally let you in to the floor, you are escorted in a line that you really cant get around people to bypass since the way they lead you are small spaces.  So its a pretty controlled line.
