I think it's her tribute to Michael Jackson 

HINTS:

1. Man on the Moon/Moonwalk 
2. "I can't compete with the stars in the sky" "Send my message into outer space, wonder if it's gonna float your way" , because he's in heaven 
3. Also "Man on the Moon" may be because he's a VMA legend, I mean have you heard about a little award called "Michael Jackson Video Vanguard"? 
4. "Now there's meaning in the saddest songs, all I do is cry and sing along", because she now feels the pain behind those songs 
5. "There's a hole in the atmosphere", since he's so important and greatly missed 
6. "Darkness comes and love comes alive", because she sees him in her dreams 

I could easily be wrong, but it's still a great song and a guy can hope

Also, it's never too late to honor a loved one in your own special way

She did performances and stuff, but maybe now, she wanted a song too
