The new album is on its way and Lopez has a pair of films coming out next year—Shotgun Wedding and The Mother. “Such was the mood that surrounded the writing and recording of her forthcoming album, which will be her first in nearly a decade. I’m not allowed to reveal the title, but suffice it to say that it serves as a kind of bookend to This Is Me…Then, the album she released 20 years ago in the heady early days of her relationship with Affleck.” ”IT is this album that pulls Lopez’s enthusiasm at the moment. She says that it will be the most honest work she has ever done, “kind of a culmination of who I am as a person and an artist. People think they know things about what happened to me along the way, the men I was with—but they really have no idea, and a lot of times they get it so wrong. There’s a part of me that was hiding a side of myself from everyone. And I feel like I’m at a place in my life, finally, where I have something to say about it.” She lends me her AirPods so that I can listen to a few rough cuts from the record. There are plaintive, confessional songs, reflections on the trials of her past, upbeat jams celebrating love and s**. As I’m listening, I notice that she has closed her eyes, and she is dancing in her chair and singing along to her own voice. For a moment it occurs to me that she might be treating me to a little performance, but no, she is just so into it.”
  2. 1. “Oh, babyyyyy.” This is how Britney opens the song—a perfect nod to her first smash hit, “Baby One More Time.” 2. The song has a steady, smooth disco beat; the type you could dance slowly to all night long without ever getting tired of it. I just need a dance floor and some bellbottoms! 3. Britney and Elton are singing together at the same time—a true duet. Their voices, surprisingly, jive very well together, despite their stylistic differences. 4. I love that Britney’s using her lower register in the bridge. Her true voice! There have been rumors that the pop star has been forced by her label to sing in a high-pitched baby voice for years; It’s refreshing to see her return to her lower range, which was more prominent in her earlier work. 5. The hook is definitely a modern take on Elton’s original 1971 chorus, “Hold me closer, tiny dancer.” It’s probably no coincidence that it reminds me of the groovier take on “Cold Heart” that John and Dua Lipa recently did. 6. Elton’s sounding real good here, too. The man’s been in show business for six decades and, somehow, the passage of time doesn’t seem to affect those signature pipes. 7. There’s something about Britney’s voice and a dance track that just go extremely well together—like red wine and a basket of bread. She does things with her vocal tone that all the other pop girlies simply can’t. That’s why she’s the true princess of pop. 8. I will say: This song is pretty sweet and innocent for the pure-***pot Britney, who once raunchily sang, “Yeah, your body looks so sick, I think I caught the flu.” 9. Her voice is also giving me serious Glory vibes here—her 2016 album, which had a more sophisticated sound. Digging this new leveled-up vibe for her. 10. Given this is Britney’s first post-conservatorship release, all I can think about while listening to this duo is how pissed Madonna must be that Elton got Britney on a track first. (Elton and Madonna have an infamous feud.) But c’mon now—there are enough music idols to go around. 11. How genius would it be if the music video was shot in Britney’s signature Instagram video style? I demand to see her do a fashion show, or twirl, to this beat. 12. Now that Britney’s partnering with icons like Elton John, I’m taking a moment to think about who else she could release a song with. Cher? Mariah? Her close friend, Selena Gomez? The opportunities are endless. True Britney fans also know that the pop star creates magic whenever she works with producer Danja (who did Blackout, her best album by far). Get Danja on the line! 13. As the soft piano outro plays, I find myself hoping this is one of many new tracks to come from Miss Spears. I think we can also all agree that we only want her to do things on her own terms, her own timing, and her own pure will, but I have a feeling she has more things up her sleeve. It’s Britney, *****! 🔴VOGUE

  6. Dua Lipa is featured on the June/July Vogue issue. She opens up about her new chapter, while revealing the pieces of her past that remain close to her heart and her third album is halfway finished but is in no rush to release it. “I’ve definitely grown up. Overall, whether it’s sonically or in terms of the themes, I’ve matured,” she said. “It’s like I’m coming into my power and not afraid to talk about things,” she added of the third album. “It’s about understanding what I want.” “It has a vision. It has a name, I think—for now. It’s just been fun experimenting. I’m always going to make pop music, but it has its own unique sound, which is exciting and something that feels like a movement from ‘Future Nostalgia’.”

  12. Beyonce is featured in the December issue of British Vogue is on newsstands on 6 November. Below are some highlights. On chart success versus cultural impact: "Owning my films, clothing lines, and masters is important to me. Your songs, your image and the way you conduct business do not have to be created from a commercial point of view, or a male point of view. You can decide what success looks like for yourself. Being number one does not mean better quality. And commercial success certainly doesn’t equate to being impactful. Cultural currency is invaluable." Family: "I truly cherish this time w/ my family. My new goal is to slow down & shed stressful things from my life. I came into the music industry at 15 & grew up w/ the world watching, and I have put out projects non-stop. Now, I’ve decided to give myself permission to focus on my joy." "Something cracked open inside of me right after giving birth to my first daughter. I truly understood my power & motherhood has been my biggest inspiration. It became my mission to make sure she lived in a world where she feels truly seen & valued." The pandemic / BLM: "I am absolutely changed. It would be difficult to experience life in a pandemic and the current social unrest and not be changed. I have learned that my voice is clearer when I am still." Legacy: "I’ve spent a lot of time focusing on building my legacy and representing my culture the best way I know how. Now, I’ve decided to give myself permission to focus on my joy." "I released #LEMONADE during the #FormationWorldTour, gave birth to twins, performed at #Coachella, directed #Homecoming, went on another world tour with Jay, then #BlackIsKing, all back to back. It’s been heavy and hectic." "I was deeply inspired by my trip to South Africa. After having my son, I felt it was important to uplift and praise our boys and to assure that they grow up with enough films, children’s books & music that promote emotional intelligence, self-value & our rich history."
