  1. What up, Exhale I've never made a top 10 of my favorite albums, but I'm pretty sure this one would make the cut. It was released 17 years ago, I just can't believe how I went from listening to it when I was just a kid and now I look back at it in my late 20s. In order to celebrate its anniversary, I would like to run down the track list and talk about those songs. Take me Away: a very Evanescence-esque (the cacophony here lol) opening track. It definitely sets the whole vibe for the record. Together: I love the piano melody at the beginning. Silly me was just learning English at that moment and judging by the title, I thought it was a love song. Don’t Tell Me: a great pick for the lead single. Everything about it was amazing. I remember being entranced by the music video, and I still watch it regularly in YouTube. However, I think that it is the message of the song what should be highlighted: CONSENT, even if you are in an actual relationship. He Wasn’t: such a fun song. I remember being eager about this becoming a single, and 2005 heard my prayers. How Does It Feel: Avril’s vocals are beautifully soothing when the sound is more stripped down. This song is the perfect example. I also love how the instrumentation grows towards the end. My Happy Ending: the big hit from the album, peaking at #9 in the BB Hot 100. It was here when even more girls started copying this punk yet preppy style of hers. And can we just talk about the bridge in this song? Nobody’s Home: more of the Evanescence influence, even Ben Moody (the band’s former guitarist) was involved in its crafting. The music video always made me feel uneasy. Forgotten: this is the only song in the album that I couldn’t ever get into. Who Knows: I imagined so many things to include in a music video for this song. It’s just so uplifting. Fall to Pieces: and here’s my favorite song in the album, and my favorite Avril’s song overall. This song has been with me over the years and it just irks me how it didn’t receive the promo it deserved. Also, the way her vocal tones overlap towards the last chorus Freak Out: in my mind, this one and ‘Who Knows’ are like sister songs. They give me the same uplifting, couldn’t-care-less vibe. Love it. Slipped Away: it’s like the lullaby of the album, at least during the first minute. I love the lyrics in here. I Always Get what I Want: this one wasn’t in the album edition I bought. It’s not necessarily bad, it just pales against the rest of the album. This is just a brief looking back at an amazing body of work. What do you guys think?
