Following the critical acclaimed debut album "SAWAYAMA", Rina will release her 2nd album "Hold The Girl" on September 2 2022. She has thus far only released a teaser to give her Pixels a taste of what's to come. It sounds like the album will continue with the pop rock / alternative vibe. The new song "This Hell" gives nods to our 00's idols, such as Britney, Whitney, Paris, etc.

Japan-born singer Rina Sawayama, who permanently re-located to the UK at 5-years-old and has remained there ever since, is ineligible to enter Mercury Prize and the BRITs because of a nationality clause. In a nut shell, she's not a UK citizen, therefore she can't enter to win at these awards shows. Her self-titled album is hailed as one of the best pop records of the year. Rina has what's called an indefinite leave to remain (ILR). In many ways, she lives and acts like a real UK citizen. She considers herself British, so she's rightfully upset because of this dumb dumb rule. “It was so heartbreaking,” she tells Vice of the moment she found out she couldn’t enter. “I rarely get upset to the level where I cry. And I cried.” “All I remember is living here,” she says. “I've just lived here all my life. I went to summer school in Japan, and that's literally it. But I feel like I've contributed to the UK in a way that I think is worthy of being celebrated, or at least being eligible to be celebrated.” “I'm signed to a UK label,” Rina continued. “I've lived here uninterrupted for the last 25 years. I'm only tax registered in this country. The whole album was recorded in the UK as well as in LA. It was mixed in the UK. My lyrics are in English, except for one verse in one song.” IMO, these awards shows need to calm down. They're already fading into irrelevancy anyway, so excluding people feels icky especially considering the times we are in. Thoughts, Exhale? Is this fair? Related:

Elton John declares Rina Sawayama's self-titled is album of the year. Obviously, that's a super huge deal because he's a mf LEGEND and she's an up-and-comer. It's also interesting because, well, he's featured on Gaga's new album #Chromatica and, uh... yeah. Sawayama is an amazing album though. Though Complex disagrees Related:

Elton John and Madonna's feud(?) goes way back. I presumed they resolved their issues over the years, but Elton just reignited the tension by complementing Rina Sawayama's new music whilst simultaneously tearing down the queen of pop. He says one of Rina's new album “encompasses so many styles of music. ‘Bad Friend’, for example, is a song that Madonna would die for.” Le sigh. BTW, Elton called Sawayama album of the year. I love Elton, but there's enough going on in the world. We need to uplift one another. What would Gaga say Thoughts on Elton's comment? Was it necessary? Related:

Up and coming British singer Irina Sawayama just released her debut album today “SAWAYAMA” and included Britney in her inspiration playlists on her Spotify page. Actually as soon as I listened to the track “XS” I immediately noticed some similarities with “Gimme More” so I was glad to find out she was actually inspired by it Related:
