  10. In an attempt to create an annual tradition on Exhale of coming up with our very own list of the Top 100 songs of the year, several months ago I asked Exhalers to submit their entries, from December 2020 to November 2021. During the month of November I received your votes, and now I can finally reveal the official Exhale Top 100 songs of 2021. There were over 500 submissions, a lot of good songs, others not so much, and to the surprise of some people, many of the most popular songs of the year weren't even nominated, but that's the point, this list is supposed to be Exhale's favorite music, independently of the sales or streams the song has out there. However, I admit the process was not the most user friendly or the most organized of all, that's why for next year I'll use the weekly Exhale Top 20, which is currently at its fourth week. The weekly performance of the songs you submit throughout the year will determine the overall position of the Top 100 of 2022, or at least will help us reduce the poll of entries so it's easier for people to vote at the end of the year. Yesterday I announced the Bubbling Under list, those songs that only made it from 200 to 101st positions. You can check the list here. 100. 11. In a shocking turn of events, Elon Musk is the TIME Person of the Year, chosen by the magazine editors. Olívia Rodrigo was Entertainer of The Year while Simone Biles was Athlete of The Year. sadly Britney didn’t get a mention.
  12. “deja vu,” one of the biggest hits on Sour, includes an interpolation of Taylor Swift's “Cruel Summer.” That shouldn't be enough to have Taylor be a nominee for Album of the Year for Sour. The Recording Academy agrees. Why didn't they sort this our PRIOR to the nominations being released though Sour will probably win Album of the Year ngl. Why else would they make this move? From Billboard: Here’s an Academy statement on the subject: “During the submission process, the Academy received credits from the label for the track ‘deju vu.’ Last week, we received the correct credits from the label that recognize Annie Clark, Jack Antonoff and Taylor Swift as songwriters of an interpolation on the track, ‘deja vu.’ In keeping with current Grammy guidelines, as songwriters of an interpolated track, Clark, Antonoff and Swift are not nominees in the album of the year category for Sour. Antonoff and Swift are nominated in the category for Swift’s album, evermore.” Thoughts, Exhale?!
  13. Olivia Rodrigo and Taylor Swift appear to be at odds? Over songwriting credits? Anyway, I thought this was kinda interesting how Olivia dodged the question. Then again, the question was kinda dumb lol. Thoughts, Exhale?
  14. Joshua Bassett has released a 3 Track EP, let's just say if Taylor swift is Olivia's biggest idol then Joshua Bassett will be the ex that basically revealed Sour was all lies and made up BS, in crisis he revealed Olivia wasn't telling the truth, and exploiting Joshua Bassett's life (he did come out earlier this summer as LGBT [won't imply what spectrum, but that's mainly due to his former co star's fanbase attacking him non stop]), he even said that Olivia messed his life so much, to the point he quit working til he got into a better head space. Rumors are He was recasted in High School musical: The series as working with Olivia after her album came out really messed him up mentally to the point arguments kept happening on set and he walked out a lot. So Joshua finally tells his side. And this should make a few people happy. He basically said Sour is a piece of fiction, that they just did a one night stand, but as typical teenage girls create the fantasy of the forever romance when that wasn't on the table to begin with, there was no romance, just a guy needing help and she was the one he was interested for his night of fun.
  15. Olivia Rodrigo is working on her second studio album, a followup to 2021's Sour. Do you think she'll see a sophomore slump? Or will she blast passed it?
  16. What’s the most surprising thing about fame? It was surprising to see who was genuinely supportive of me and who wasn’t. Sometimes when you have a lot of success really quickly, it can scare people and make people feel different. That was an interesting thing to learn. I’m figuring it all out. There has been a lot of talk surrounding how a rapid rise to global stardom can affect mental health (cue: Naomi Osaka and Simone Biles). How do you feel about that, given you’ve had a blistering year and are now a well-recognised superstar? I’m taking it one step at a time. It can be really tough on your mental health, though. I’m grateful for the people who like me for me, and keep me separated from all the noise and tabloids or what people are saying about me on social media. That’s always been a top priority. It’s funny how recognition changes everything and also changes nothing in your life. The problems I was having a year ago are still the problems I’m having now, and things that brought me joy a year ago are still the things that bring me joy now. It’s just another aspect of life that you need to learn how to deal with, but it doesn’t change who you are as a person. Via Vogue
  17. Olivia Rodrigo is an American of Filipino descent. She opened up about it in a new interview and is now getting a wave of backlash. Super annoying. There's way worse ones that I didn't include as well. I honestly don't understand certain aspects of Internet culture. Why literally be racist? Via ATRL Related:
  18. Olivia Rodrigo recently received a wave of racist hate for her Asian background. She feels honored for being in her position, however Olivia's latest quote has caught a lot of peoples' attention for lack of awareness. “I sometimes get DMs from little girls being like, ‘I’ve never seen someone who looked like me in your position.’ And I’m literally going to cry, like, just thinking about it,” Rodrigo tells V Magazine. “I feel like I grew up never seeing that. Also, it was always like, ‘Pop star,’ that’s a white girl.” She adds: “I am so inspired by so many different genres of music. I love country music so much, and I love rock music so much. And obviously pop music is my favorite, and another thing that I think is really special is that, in 2021, I feel like artists aren’t really boxed into a genre anymore. I look at someone like Billie Eilish, who I’m so obsessed with, and her music is like pop, but it’s kind of rock, too.” Related:
  19. After her highly anticipated performance at the inaugural Exhale Music Awards, Olivia Rodrigo made herself available for a few questions backstage. I overheard an interviewer ask her if she had a favorite Exhale mod. She said: Congratulations, @CrazyButItFeelsAllright! I even saw Dua Lipa nod in agreement as she passed by! Well Exhale, I think we should throw a streaming party in CrazyButItFeelsAlright’s honor of this Olivia recognition! I’ll start:
  20. These artists have all been accused, but who is the real industry plant?
