  1. Who saw this coming? Are you watching the premiere on September 12? 🤩
  2. Per Deadline : "Jennifer Hudson, one of the celebrity producers of Broadway’s A Strange Loop, achieved EGOT status tonight when that musical took the Tony Award for Best Musical. Hudson, who won the Academy Award in 2007 for her performance in Dreamgirls, is a double-Grammy winner and won a Daytime Emmy Award for Interactive Achievement as a producer of last year’s Baba Yaga. Michael R. Jackson’s A Strange Loop won Tony Awards tonight for Best Musical, Best Book of a Musical. Among the show’s listed producers are Hudson, RuPaul Charles, Don Cheadle, Mindy Kaling, Billy Porter and Alan *******."
  3. Variety follows the Oscar race very closely. They have created a list of 40 contenders that could score a nomination for Best Actress at the 2022 Academy Awards. And in their early predictions for Best Actress at the Oscars, they have placed Lady Gaga at 1st place for Ridley Scott's "House of Gucci". Gaga has previously scored a Best Actress nomination for her performance in "A Star Is Born" and won one for Best Original Song. Another Oscar winner Jennifer Hudson is also named a Top-Tier contender for her performance as Aretha Franklin in upcoming movie "Respect". Early word is that she has delivered an amazing performance. The most noteworthy of the list is Camila Cabello at 40th place for "Cinderella", backed by Amazon Studios. This is her film debut, and if she manages an Oscar nomination with it, it will solidify her future acting career. In the movie Camila gets to work with Tony and Emmy winner Billy Porter, and Golden Globe nominee James Corden. It will be a big year for our female artists. Who do you think will prevail at the end?
  4. So much for the theory of it debuting at #1. "Oh Santa!" Is expected to debut at #92. There was excitement on all ends cause of musical mother and daughter Mariah Carey and Ariana Grande on the same track. But Spotify isn't pushing the track on it's normal playlists and it's all due to the soundtrack being an Apple Music exclusive for one week. Spotify in 2016 said they don't do exclusives as they feel it hurts the fans and music lovers in general, but it's up to the label. Slowly they caved kinda to a two week exclusive album premium deal thanks to Taylor Swift returning to the platform in 2017 the day Witness by Katy Perry came out, of all days to make her return to Spotify. Well, Mariah Carey cut a deal with Apple Music to be the exclusive home of the soundtrack to her Christmas special, but that probably led to a retaliation on Spotify's part. You would think Spotify's biggest act Ariana Grande who became the first women ever to cross 70 million monthly listeners, would be enough to secure all cross promotion on playlists that usually mixes both pop and Christmas music to make it through all forms. Spotify is pretty mad that the song is coming next Friday, and a retaliation is definitely happening as Spotify is punishing the track due to the exclusive rights to Apple. So for future reference, don't do deals that Spotify considers competition in markets.. Apple is Spotify's biggest competition in the US. Related:
  5. Lately I've been thinking about some of my favorite movies featuring great performances from Black pop stars. Obviously the late, great Whitney Houston comes to mind right away. The Bodyguard, Waiting to Exhale, The Preacher's Wife. Whitney wowed us as a leading lady in The Bodyguard and her performance broke barriers at the time. Even though she faced criticism from film critics, it's safe to say some of her movies have undoubtedly stood the test of time. Mariah has been cast in some very impressive dramatic roles in Lee Daniels films Precious and The Butler. Justice For Glitter! Beyonce in Dreamgirls and The Lion King. Janet Jackson (Miss Jackson if you're nasty) in Poetic Justice Diana Ross, Janelle Monae, Aaliyah, Will Smith. The list goes on... I'm curious what some of your fave crossover performances are. Let's discuss!
