  1. How I Met Your Mother co-creator Carter Bays has praised Britney Spears for her ‘delightful’ cameo in a classic episode of the show. While it’s been close to 10 years since the time-hopping series came to an end, it remains hugely popular amongst fans, and the so-called ‘Britney Spears Episodes’ remaining firm fan-favourites. The third season saw Gimme More singer Britney, who recently married long-term boyfriend Sam Asghari, play the role of dental receptionist Abby, a sweet, naive woman who falls head-over-heels for Ted (and gets caught up in Barney’s ruse in the process.) Speaking to Metro.co.uk, Carter recalled the ‘circus’ around her cameo and praised her for bringing ‘a ton of eyes’ to the relatively new show. ‘Having Britney was delightful,’ he said. ‘It was really cool.’ ‘There was such a circus around that when it happened, it was such a surprise and out of the blue!’ He explained how they had written the episode that introduced major new character Stella, played by Scrubs star Sarah Chawke, who would go on to become engaged to Ted. ‘Then we heard Britney Spears wants to be in this episode. And we thought “Britney Spears wants to play Stella? We’ve never seen her act before, this is a huge part, is she up to this?”‘ They then learned that Crossroads star Britney instead ‘wanted to play the smaller role, this character Abby who had maybe two scenes.’ ‘We were kind of surprised by this choice,’ he admitted, adding that he believes she ‘wanted to start small and dip her toes in the water.’ ‘But she came in and she really shone in those scenes and we brought her back for another episode. ‘It was wonderful,’ Carter said. ‘It brought a lot of eyes to the show.’ ‘We were doing okay in the ratings but we weren’t really exploding, and [Britney] brought a ton of new eyes to it. ‘I’m very thankful that happened to be an episode I was really proud of and that had a lot of funny stuff in it. It was a big turning point in the show, our audience grew sizeably that day.’ Asked if Britney was a fan of the series and had requested the part personally, Carter admitted he had ‘no idea,’ but ‘sometimes the phone rings and you take it and its like “Okay, I’m not going to look a gift horse in the mouth! “The most famous person in the world wants to be in our show, let’s do it.”‘ Britney’s episodes even included the scene Carter is most proud of out of the entire series: the two-minute date Ted uses to convince busy mum-of-one Stella to go out with him. ‘It’s such a great… showcase of how well everyone on the show did ther jobs, I was so proud of everyone,’ he told Metro.co.uk Source: https://metro.co.uk/2022/06/25/how-i-met-your-mother-creator-recalls-circus-of-britney-spears-cameo-16886475/
  2. On March 24, 2008, How I Met Your Mother's season 3 thirteenth episode titled "Ten Sessions" aired on CBS. Britney Spears was one of the guest stars in the role of Abby, along with Sarah Chalke, Marhsall Manesh and Charlene Amoia. The episode was directed by Pamela Fryman and written by Chris Harris, Carter Bays and Craig Thomas. This was Britney's first TV appearance since the 2007 VMA's, and it was also the first project she did while being under the conservatorship, which was granted to her father just the previous month. In the episode Britney plays the receptionist of Dr. Stella Zinman (Sarah Chalke), the dermatologist that Ted (Josh Radnor) is seeing for ten sessions to remove his tattoo. Each week he tries to convince Dr. Zinman to date him, even though she warned him the answer was gonna be no. After five sessions he decides to start being nice to Abby to show the doctor his good side, but instead Abby starts to fall in love with him. "Ten Sessions" was the most watched episode of the season, and the only one to surpass 10M viewers. Her participation got mixed reviews from critics, with some praising her acting and others her "change of pace from her latest public appearances". Britney would reprise her role again on episode 19 "Everything Must Go" which aired on May 12.
  3. 16 years ago today, ‘How I Met Your Mother’ premiered on CBS. The sitcom ran for nine seasons and was nominated for 30 Emmys, winning 10. While the show mainly received praise, the final episode was named the worst TV series finale of all time by USA Today.
  4. On May 12, 2008, the 19th episode of How I Met Your Mother's Season 3, "Everything Must Go", aired on CBS, and if featured Britney Spears as a guest, reprising her role of Abby. She had previously appeared on the March 24 episode "Ten Sessions". This episode was written by Jonathon Groff and Chris Harris, and it was directed by Pamela Fryman. Barney (Neil Patrick Harris) finds out Abby has been sabotaging his dates, since a previous episode called "The Bracket" (where Britney didn't actually appear). After confronting her in a taxi, he tells her Ted (Josh Radnor), who she is in love with, dumped him as a friend and they both start bashing him, which leads to them sleeping together again. They try to make Ted feel bad about their supposed relationship, but he's not falling for the trick. Barney pushes it further by proposing to Abby, but she doesn't realize it's part of the joke and believes they're actually getting married. At the end Barney goes to her apartment and tells her they can't marry, because Ted is in love with her. He gives her Ted's address and tells her to stop by at 2:00 AM "because he works late". The episode finishes here with a sort of cliffhanger, suggesting there could still be more to this story, however this would be the last time that Britney, and thus, her character Abby, appeared in the series, so we never get to know what happened afterwards.
