Accidentally co-writing a hit for one of the time's biggest pop icons - just another day at work for Keith Scott. Of course, as Bryan Adams' first ax for 40+ years and a veteran hired gun who's worked with the likes of David Bowie, Tina Turner, Bryan Ferry, and other high-profile musicians, Keith Scott's certainly no stranger to having his fingerprints all over some of the music industry's biggest-earning hits. However, as the guitarist explains in a recent interview on the Mitch Lafon and Jeremy White Show (embedded below), the one song he wasn't aware of co-creating was "Don't Let Me Be The Last to Know". According to the guitarist, the reason why he ever got listed among the songwriters of Britney Spears' multi-platinum 2000 album "Oops!... I Did It Again" - was the legendary producer and songwriter Robert John "Mutt" Lange. As Scott explains, it all happened when he, Bryan Adams, and Lange were working on some overdubs for Adams's "18 til I Die" in France (transcribed by UG): "Well, It's a long story. But, that is, again, Mutt Lange. We were doing track overdubs in France, for '18 Til I die,' And Mutt was working on an edit, and I was sitting behind him, playing this chord scale. And he stopped, turned around, and he said, 'What is that?' I said, 'That's just something I've been working on.'"[Some time] later, the record was out, and he actually phoned me and said, 'Hey, you know that idea you were playing,' it was, like, years ago, and I'm like, 'What are you talking about?'"He said, 'It was a thing you played, and I used it for this Britney Spears song that we wrote for Shania [Twain, Lange's wife at the time and 'Don't Let Me Be The Last to Know' co-writer], but we gave it to Britney. So, I'm giving you a songwriting credit.'"And I went, 'Well, I didn't have anything to do with the song.' He goes, 'No, this is how it is. You did something, and I'm gonna reward you for it. I'm gonna give you credit for it, because, without that part, the song isn't right.' That was his [initiative], and he included me on that. And that was her biggest record. I mean, it was so sweet of him to do that, but not necessary. Nobody else would have done that. That's the difference between Mutt Lange and maybe somebody else."
