Per EW: Believe it or not, Ripley's says Kim Kardashian didn't ruin Marilyn Monroe's dress at the Met Gala "The fact remains that she did not, in any way, damage the garment in the short amount of time it was worn at the Met Gala." When has a dress last caused this much commotion? Posts started popping up on social mediaearlier this week accusing Kim Kardashianof ruining Marilyn Monroe's iconic dress at the Met Gala, and you'd think the reality star had defaced Mount Rushmore or taken a lit match to the Constitution with the swift outrage. Now, Ripley's Believe It or Not!, which loaned Kardashian the dress, is attempting to set the record straight in her defense. In a statement posted to its website, Ripley's notes that one thing they "can say with confidence" is that Kim K's now notorious walk up the Met Gala stairs "did not cause damage to Marilyn Monroe's famed 'Happy Birthday' dress from 1962." Kardashian wore the dress for a hot minute, using it to make her fashionably late entrance at the Gala before changing into a replica of the gown. "I'm extremely respectful to the dress and what it means to American history," Kardashian told Vogue. "I would never want to sit in it or eat in it or have any risk of any damage to it and I won't be wearing the kind of body makeup I usually do." After it had exchanged several hands over the years, Ripley's acquired the dress at an auction in 2016 for $4.8 million. According to Ripley's, the wear and tear the dress suffered in the intervening 50-plus years was detailed in a 2017 report, including "a number of the seams are pulled and worn" and "puckering at the back by the hooks and eyes." "Kim Kardashian wearing the 'Happy Birthday' dress has been hotly contested," the statement continues, "but the fact remains that she did not, in any way, damage the garment in the short amount of time it was worn at the Met Gala." Ripley's VP of Publishing and Licensing Amanda Joiner was with the dress the day of the Gala and during its transport from Orlando to New York, according to the statement, and she also weighed in on the fashion fiasco, saying, "From the bottom of the Met steps, where Kim got into the dress, to the top where it was returned, the dress was in the same condition it started in." The famed memorabilia collector also posted a series of slides to its Instagram answering popular questions from across the internet, like "Really, Ripley's?!" and "Was it worth it?" In response to the latter, it was noted that Kardashian didn't pay Ripley's for the dress, but instead made donations to two charities in the greater Orlando area on behalf of the company. So there you have it. The dress is 60 years young — but doesn't look a day over 30 — it's been through a lot, and a short jaunt up a flight of stairs apparently is the least of its troubles. Ripley's Believe It or Not! will continue to exhibit the dress — in as-is condition — at their Hollywood location through the fall. One assumes Kardashian will still be allowed to visit it.

On July 26, 2018, Britney Spears made a surprising appearance on The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon, in the middle of her 2018 Piece of Me Tour. She appeared in the recurring segment "Ew" where she graced us with a small glimpse of live vocals, in what is the closest to a I'm Not a Girl, Not Yet a Woman performance we've gotten since 2002.

Per EW: "Break My Soul" is already igniting a renaissance for Beyoncé on the American charts. The pop icon's new song has become her 20th career top 10 single on the Billboard Hot 100 — and her first as a solo artist since 2016's "Formation" — as it rises from No. 15 to No. 7 on the publication's latest ranking of the most popular songs in the country. Released as the lead single from her upcoming album Renaissance, "Break My Soul" fuses house-inspired dance beats with Beyoncé's soaring vocals for a radical sonic departure from her last collection of original material, 2019's The Gift, a companion album to Disney's Lion King remake. Though she hasn't reached the top 10 in the United States as a solo act since "Formation," Beyoncé has since scaled the chart via collaborations with other popular artists. Her 2017 "Perfect Duet" with Ed Sheeran reached No. 1, as did her 2020 remix of Megan Thee Stallion's "Savage," while she narrowly missed out on the top spot on J Balvin and Willy William's "Mi Gente" remix, which peaked at No. 3 five years ago. "Break My Soul" arrived in June as the first preview of Beyoncé's seventh solo studio album — the cover for which sees the artist posing nearly nude atop a digitized horse. Many interpreted the Renaissance album cover as both a reference to the historical Lady Godiva — who rode a horse nude in opposition to taxation — and the night Bianca Jagger famously climbed atop a horse at the Studio 54 nightclub in 1977. "Creating this album allowed me a place to dream and to find escape during a scary time for the world. It allowed me to feel free and adventurous in a time when little else was moving. My intention was to create a safe place, a place without judgment. A place to be free of perfectionism and overthinking. A place to scream, release, feel freedom," Beyoncé wrote of the album on Instagram. "It was a beautiful journey of exploration. I hope you find joy in this music. I hope it inspires you to release the wiggle. Ha! And to feel as unique, strong, and **** as you are." Renaissance drops on July 29.

Per EW: Justin Timberlake is ready to say sorry. The pop star's dance moves went viral on the internet after his performance of "**** Back" at the Something in the Water festival in Washington, D.C., last weekend — and the feedback was not positive. In the wake of mocking parodies on TikTok, Timberlake took to social media to make amends. "D.C., I want to apologize to you for two reasons," Timberlake said to the camera in an Instagram Story posted Wednesday. He then flipped the camera downward to focus on his multi-colored sneakers. "Here and here!" He jokingly added, "I had a long talk with both of them individually and said, 'Um, don't you ever do that to me again.'" The shoes shouldn't feel too bad, though, since Timberlake also blamed the pants he was wearing at the time, citing a "khaki vibe." To prove he's a good sport, Timberlake also shared TikToks making fun of the moves to his Instagram Story. One featured a young girl imitating the dance with the caption "she did it better than JT." "I don't disagree," Timberlake commented with a laughing emoji.

Per EW: "Sorry" is all Method Man needs to get by. The legendary rapper issued a decades-old apology to Destiny's Child for a perceived slight, saying that the trio "did not deserve that. At all." Let's set the stage. It's 2001. Pop music is at its bubblegum millennial peak. Destiny's Child, once a foursome, has reached its ultimate form as a triad: Beyoncé, Kelly Rowland, and Michelle Williams. It's Janet Jackson's MTV Icon special, at which the ladies were in attendance to honor the then- and current-queen of pop and R&B. Method Man had met the girl group back in 1999, when DC had four members, and felt a level of comfort with them. "I see the girls, and so, you know, I kind of moseyed out of my seat to go and say what's up to them," Method Man (real name Clifford Smith, Jr.) told rapper Math Hoffa on the latter's podcast, My Expert Opinion. m*** noted that this was during his "low self-esteem era" during which he had an addiction to ecstasy and was riddled with depression and anxiety. "I go over to say hi to them, and when I said hi, they didn't even turn around and acknowledge me. Now, my a-- in my head with my low self-esteem is like, 'Oh, they just s---ted on me.' When in fact they didn't even hear me." So with this perceived slight still weighing on his mind, when he and DC3 meet up again, they extended their hands to greet him and Method Man simply left them hanging. "They put their hands out to shake, and I kept my hand here and was like, 'Go head with that Hollywood s---.' To this day, that s--- hurt my heart, because neither Kelly, Beyoncé, or Michelle ever did any f---ing thing to me. You know?" Method Man then took the opportunity to issue a formal apology to all three members of Destiny's Child. "To this day, I don't think that I ever apologized for that," he said. "I apologize to Beyoncé. I apologize to Kelly Rowland, and Michelle. Y'all did not deserve that. At all." Bey's mother Tina Lawson observed m***'s apology and thanked him for being the bigger man in an Instagram post. "Thank you, Method Man," the all-mother of the BeyHive wrote. "It takes a real man to tell this story! Such a great example for other young men. Don't assume someone is dissing you!" Yeah, especially when it's pretty clear when Destiny's Child is dissing you.

Kesha treats her touring company like family and as such she has no problem making them as uncomfortable as possible. In certain cases, that means eschewing fancy five-star hotels for "haunted *****houses." The pop star stopped by SiriusXM's Andy Cohen Live to promote her new supernatural TV show on Discovery+ Conjuring Kesha and shared some of her spooky touring habits. "When I go on tour, the band and dancers are like, 'Let's stay at the W' and I'm like, 'Nope, we're going to Amarillo, Texas. And we're staying in a haunted *****house and they're like, 'You're such a *****,'" Kesha tells Cohen. "But I love it, 'cause I basically am going on a road trip. When you go on tour, you go on a road trip," she continued. "And I'm really good friends with my entire crew. So, then I make us all camp and look for aliens or, like, stop at haunted *****houses." Kesha's fascination with aliens and haunted houses is well-documented, mostly thanks to her podcast Kesha and the Creepies, in which she explores matters of the occult, urban legends, psychedelic art, astrology, and the like. "I have had so many experiences in this incarnation that I just can't ignore or explain, and I've always been fascinated by supernatural subjects, the unexplainable, and people exploring alternative thought and lifestyles," she previously told EW. "The creepy and unexplainable is what keeps life magic, so let's talk about it." Cohen asked Kesha if her dancers are cool with all this spooky business but according to her, they knew what they signed up for. "My dancers have been with me for 12 years, honey, if they did not like it, they could have gone," she said. "They love it because I'm a crazy motherf---er." Source: EW

Guillermo Diaz who worked with Britney Spears on the "I Wanna Go" music video shares his experience: "Britney Spears' "I Wanna Go" music video (2011) "I was supposed to be in the beginning of the video where she says my line from Half Baked then she points to me and I give her a thumbs up," Diaz says about the initial plan for the pop princess' "I Wanna Go" video. But a few days before the shoot, someone dropped out and Diaz suddenly found himself with a bigger role, driving around with Spears and pouring milk on himself. Diaz remembers Spears and kind and powerful, and, while she was shy in between takes, she came to life when the camera started rolling. "I'm so proud to be part of something with Britney Spears because I just love her and it was such an awesome moment in my life," he says. He even has a sourvenir from the experience: "I remember driving home after the shoot in my milk-soaked pants because they let me keep the jeans."" Diane Warren finally gets her due at the Oscars. Per EW: After 13 Academy Award nominations, collaborations with Cher, Beyoncé, and Lady Gaga, and a career filled with countless tunes crafted for movies big and small, songwriter Diane Warren will finally receive her long-awaited Oscar later this year at Governors Awards. The Academy announced Tuesday the 65-year-old is among four of this year's Honorary Award recipients alongside Witness and Master and Commander helmer Peter Weir, Marlon Brando's A Dry White Season filmmaker Euzhan Palcy (the first Black woman to direct a film for a major Hollywood studio), and Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award honoree Michael J. Fox. "The Academy's Board of Governors is honored to recognize four individuals who have made indelible contributions to cinema and the world at large," said Academy President David Rubin in a press statement. "Michael J. Fox's tireless advocacy of research on Parkinson's disease alongside his boundless optimism exemplifies the impact of one person in changing the future for millions. Euzhan Palcy is a pioneering filmmaker whose groundbreaking significance in international cinema is cemented in film history. Diane Warren's music and lyrics have magnified the emotional impact of countless motion pictures and inspired generations of musical artists. Peter Weir is a director of consummate skill and artistry whose work reminds us of the power of film to reveal the full range of human experience." Warren's status as a perennial competitive nominee for iconic songs like Trisha Yearwood's "How Do I Live" from Con Air and Aerosmith's "I Don't Want to Miss a Thing" from Armageddon — has become a talking point among the industry for years. "I mean, go ahead, give Diane Warren an honorary Oscar, please put her out of her misery. She's usually nominated for a song in a movie that nobody has seen. People love her enough to nominate her, I don't understand why we can't just give her the award one year and get it over with," one anonymous producer told EW earlier this year as part of our annual Oscars secret ballot, while a director added: "Give the Oscar to Diane Warren for God's sake. I've never even heard of Four Good Days, but give her the damn Oscar. She keeps getting nominated. She's like the Susan Lucci of the Oscars. I mean, Jesus Christ. If she doesn't get it this year, she gets an Honorary Oscar." The Academy's Governors Awards will be handed out on Saturday, Nov. 13 in Los Angeles and, if tradition continues, portions of the ceremony will be edited into the 2023 Oscars ceremony when it airs on Sunday, March 12.

Per EW: Harry Styles certainly knows how to celebrate Pride Month. During a Sunday concert at London's Wembley Stadium, the Harry's Househitmaker was met with an urgent request from someone in the crowd. "From Ono to Wembley: Help me come out," read a sign that caught Styles' eye. In between songs, the singer sprang into action. Hoisting up a rainbow flag he plucked from the audience, Styles declared, "When this flag goes over my head, you are officially out. I think that's how it works: When this sign goes over the head, you're officially gay, my boy." Styles built anticipation by running the flag back and forth across the stage before lifting it high to rapturous cheers. "Congratulations, you're a free man!" Styles concluded. Watch fan videos of the moment below. In a tweet after the concert, Styles called it "one of my favorite shows we've ever played." Styles, who has spoken often about ***ual and gender fluidity, will star as a closeted cop this fall in the romance film My Policeman. Styles' tour is set to continue throughout Europe before coming to New York City in August, where he is set to play no fewer than 15 shows at Madison Square Garden. Those performances will be followed by similar multi-night stops in Austin and Chicago.

Per EW: J.Lo and E.Mu rocked L.A. on Thursday. Pop superstar Jennifer Lopez, 52, invited one of her 14-year-old twins, Emme Muñiz, to perform with her on stage at the sixth annual Los Angeles Dance Foundation's Blue Diamond Gala, lovingly introducing Emme to the crowd with they/them pronouns. "The last time we performed together was in a big stadium like this and I ask them to sing with me all the time, and they won't," she said. "So this is a very special occasion. They are very, very busy. Booked. And pricey. They cost me when they come out. But they're worth every single penny because they're my favorite duet partner of all time. So if you will indulge me." Videos posted to Twitter from Thursday's event show the duo harmonizing to Christina Perri's "A Thousand Years" at Dodger Stadium. Lopez sported a floor-length, feather-trimmed robe that matched her aqua bra and pants ensemble, while Muñiz wore oversized shorts and a button-down shirt, both hot pink, which they paired with a dark ball cap. Another Twitter clip shows Muñiz, who Lopez shares with ex-husband Marc Anthony along with son Max, singing Bruce Springsteen's "Born in the U.S.A." with Lopez and performing a solo section of Lopez's hit "Let's Get Loud." This isn't the first time Muñiz has performed "Let's Get Loud" with their mother in public. The Netflix documentary Halftime details the disagreement Lopez had with the NFL over her decision to have Muñiz perform the song from inside a cage during the 2020 Super Bowl halftime show. "We left rehearsal and I noticed everybody was freaking out, but I don't know why," Lopez recalls. "I get a call from [my manager] Benny [Medina] and he's like, 'They want to pull the cages.' That night, the higher-ups at the NFL saw it for the first time and they're like, 'Hey, you can't do that.'" Lopez pushed back, and the show was lauded as a "frank and necessary political moment for a league that has been criticized for sorely lacking both," EW's Alex Suskind wrote at the time. The Los Angeles Dodgers Foundation Blue Diamond Gala earmarks all proceeds from the event for the organization's various community programs and initiatives aimed at improving education, health care, homelessness, and social justice. This is the first gala to be held since 2019.
