  1. BreatheHeavy/Exhale typically focuses on the pop juggernauts, but it's the up-and-coming independent pop artist that need the most love. Dyllan White made his debut on BH last year, and while the world may have completely changed since then, Dyllan's passion for creating unforgettable tunes hasn't. He released a new EP titled D://istort.paraME.trs Ya boy has some thoughts on the tracks. Or via Apple Music "MEDUSA" kicks off the EP. In between Dyllan's sassy verses, Mitch Baby and SIGAAL throw jabs over frenetic, glitchy production. "U Wit' it" cools off the burn with Dyllan's ghoulish, breathy vocals. There's a glitchy beat that seamlessly spills into the next track, "Leeloo Multi-Pass," a glorious nod to the iconic sci-fi action film, The Fifth Element. "You know I got a show," Dyllan sings over a blippy, pulsating beat. It's the perfect adrenaline-inducing tune to raise the heart rate before slipping into the matrix-ethereal "Remain CALM." It's like dunking your head into a swirling vortex of white noise and lies. The track incorporates a haunting production, whispery, ominous vocals that delivers an eerie message to remain calm. Thing is, it's hard to remain CALM when someone's asking you to. I'm hyped. My favorite song off the EP is "BoP!" The robo-tronics production are a one-two punch, but the upper-cut is the slinky s**ual lyrics. BoP stands for body on point. Naturally, BoP! is a bop. At the end of it, Dyllan says "Omg that song is a mess but I love it." A swift, 90-second banger titled "Sorry 2 Leave U Like This" rounds out the EP. A bitter, petty, braggadocios goodbye is a dizzying, disorienting way to round out an action-packed release from the rising indie pop artist. Exhale, would love for you to check out Dyllan's new EP and leave your thoughts in the comments! What do you think of it? Surprised by any of the songs? Gravitate towards one in particular? Sound off!
  2. Hey Exhale, I hope you're in the mood to jam out to some dreamy, slinky, mid-tempo bops this weekend. Up-and-coming pop artist Jean-Paul (@jeanpaulxo on Instagram) released his debut, self-titled album, and I want to shine a light on it. Jean-Paul is part of BreatheHeavy's Creators roster, which highlights independent artists amidst the avalanche of mainstream music news. We also had a video interview together which you can watch here. Give the album a play first (my faves are "Volume" and "'Cause You"), then read our interview together below! I'd love to know what your thoughts are. If you're not a big fan of streaming music on YouTube, here's where you can hear the album on Spotify or Apple Music. Oh, and here's a shameless plug to JP's merch Your new music has a dreamy vibe. It's very cohesive-sounding! What do you want people to take away from it after listening? Thank you! Cheers to a new era… I definitely want people to feel, and understand the inspiration I had for each one of the songs on the album. Interestingly enough, for each song on the album I can verbally express what Inspired it, and how it connects to me as a person. I hope people listen to this album and are able to self reflect. I hope it makes people feel good too! Why did you decide to self-title it? Good question, my debut is to solidify myself, my name, and image within the music industry. I had such negative, and mixed comments on the EP Reflections - so I vowed to improve on my vocals, the production, and visuals with my team. ‘Jean-Paul’ serves as a prelude to my life, and character - really complex and always adapting… What do you want people to know about it in relation to you? Again, this album should boldly resonate with many - because it draws in all the inspiration I receive from those I venerate. People should know that this album is a product of what inspires me, and makes me feel good. The final product obviously is very experimental pop, with subtle head nods, and innuendos. What was the creative process like making this body of work? While songwriting, and collaborating with my team, I definitely was at a low point in my life… I typically self reflected a whole lot, and held on tight to any inspiration. I feel like it was a good thing - to enable the potency of the creativity. A lot of songs I admire was released in 2019. I also found a lot of inspiration from other bodies of work.. When I showed the inspiration to my producer, or engineer, they hadn’t heard of the artist or work - but were immediately inspired. So we were able to make that energy into some original unique sounds! Why should people listen to your music? This debut album serves to revolutionize pop music. A lot of my fans realize that pop music isn’t exactly what it use to be - organic, original, or thought-provoking. Unfortunately the creative process is gimmicky, and the replay value doesn’t stretch very far. People should listen to my music for a refreshing, and invigorating feel. The message behind the lyrics are pretty intriguing as well - if anyone actually dives into it! What are some of the personal experiences from your life that can be heard on the album? Throughout each song there are pieces of my life embedded within the lyrics…. For example… in “Remedy”, there is a line that says “Tell me if there’s any remedy in this room”…. My “Remedy” in life….. is music - whether I’m dealing with friendships or relationships… “Superficial Charm” taps into the exterior portion of my appearance, and feelings, “What you see is all within me”. “The moons and the stars”… I believe in the power beyond Earth - moon signs, & star signs, they might actually play a role in life. Even in “My Reality” (which turned out to be an amazing Neo Soul sounding song) - expresses my concerns with life itself. “My reality is not there… my reality is nowhere…” This sounds like an existential crisis, right? However - my experiences with pop culture and how it influences me is definitely shown on “Fame”. The uptempo beat drives dance, and movement, while my voice contrasts with long notes, “came to save the world of bigotry” - making sure people understand I am open minded in my craft and daily life. I know they're all your babies, but what song means the most to you? Why's that? I don’t think I could pick a favorite song - however, ‘Cause You (Austin Leeds Soirée Remix), means a lot to me right now. My engineer / producer Tyler & I wrote the song from our own inspiration. To see the song transformed into a club banger is amazing. I honestly think using more of this sound is what I plan to incorporate moving towards the next project….. What do you consider being successful in music means to you now? The power to inspire is what makes anyone successful in music. A true artist develops replay value. They are continuously changing appearances, personas, and ideals. A successful musician will own a well versed catalogue of music - even if the sound is all similar - it should paint a bigger picture & tell a larger story to their audience. Anything else you'd like to add that I didn't ask? I knew going into the debut I’d face a lot of adversities - but I’m glad I can say I’m going in fully confident that this body of work serves as inspiration for many. I’m so thankful I’ve been able to work with my team on improving vocals, production, mixing, everything. I’m not done yet, my team and I are still rolling out music videos, performances & other cool events to celebrate the debut. Thanks so much Breathe Heavy. --- Drop a line in the comments, Exhale!
  3. Dyllan White (@dyllanwhite) , one of BreatheHeavy's Creators, released a brooding music video for his new song, "Tunnel Vision." The visual is a gleaming, nightmarish rendering of one of Dyllan's harrowing immersive fantasies. He slithers in a neon-lit tub, basks in goo and is chained to the wall. Issa MOOD. "For me, this song is about chasing after someone who you know is wrong for you but also embracing it. Slightly obsessive," Dyllan said. He added during the editing stage of the video, the concept of it became clear. "The different stages of being obsessed with something or someone. You're submerged in it, you're bound to it, you're washing yourself of it, you're stagnant right in the middle of it... all different versions you go through when you're really going through it." He added: "We all get obsessed with someone at one point or another and we look back at it like "what was i thinking", this song is about embracing that moment you went through but knowing it was just that, a moment in time." Dyllan is currently living in NYC, the pandemic capital of the world. He opened up about challenges he faces being there whilst being an artist. "Everything that is going on is completely horrible, and being in NYC in the middle of it has really kept us home. We have to stay home for the safety of yourself and others, so creative people have all the time now and can really focus on it. I had time to edit the "Tunnel Vision" video... I have been writing and producing like crazy haha.. But also being able to give back a bit in the capacity that you can... I have another song coming out on Friday 'new york, u are my friend' that gives comfort to all us New Yorkers who are home and the New Yorkers who are still out there working hard for everyone. I wouldn't have ever created a song like this had it not been for the emotions I am going through, and if i'm going through it, i'm sure MANY others are. The video will consist of photos of people in their masks, zoom/houseparty meetings, people volunteering, essential workers, the 7pm clap, etc. I have been inside and wasn't as inspired. I tend to rely on experiences I have w others to create... feeling the city wide clap at 7pm for the essential workers; inspired me..." Dyllan continued: "So finding different forms of inspiration and being open to them is key." Thoughts on the video, Exhale? Drop a line in the comments.
  4. Hey Exhale fam, I recently had the opportunity to collaborate with a writer named Stephanie Guerilus (@It'sAllAboutControl). She penned a novel titled Control. It's inspired by the iconic Janet Jackson album title. She's giving back to pop fans by offering her book free of charge on Kindle via Amazon. You may have noticed the shiny Control banner at the top of Exhale. When you click it, you're taken to the Amazon page where you can give it a read at no cost to you. Here's a synopsis: If you would like to own a physical copy (like me ) there's an option to buy it as well. Why does this matter? It's a fun way to escape life's troubles right now and indulge in something good for your mind. The novel touches on important subjects like racial inequality, abuse, and female power. It's something we can do together. I'm currently reading it as well. Looks like Exhale has a book club now! Below is a chat Stephanie and I had about the book. Give it a read and then check her novel out. We'd also LOVE to hear your thoughts on this. I know how honest Exhale can be. Stephanie and I are responding to your guys' replies!
  5. Hey Exhale! I haven't had a chance to flex my interviewing skills in a minute since the world flipped upside down due to the Coronavirus, but I'm so grateful I got to jump back into one of my passions again. I had the fortunate opportunity to cross paths with a writer named Stephanie Guerilus. She published a book titled Control, inspired from the iconic Janet Jackson album. It's available on Amazon! Here's a synopsis below: Stephanie is also a huge Britney fan. She's been following BreatheHeavy for years, and had nothing but sweet and genuine things to say about B in our Skype interview together. We chat about what it's like being a writer and a creative person amidst a pandemic, her book Control, your pop faves like Britney, Janet and Mariah, and more. OH, and did I mention TODAY (March 31st) is Stephanie's birthday?! She got dressed up in a pretty gown for our interview to celebrate. I'd love for you to carve out 10 minutes of your day and enjoy this interview. Also, since we're all stuck at home for the foreseeable future, grab a copy of her book and indulge yourself! BTW, if you're interested in joining BreatheHeavy's Creators series, please email me at Jordan[@]breatheheavy.com.
  6. Whether you're an independent artist, a new business owner, or pushing yourself to try something new, breaking through the noise can prove difficult. We tend to look towards our past for evidence of what can happen in our future, but that'll only result in more of the same. The flip side is having laser focus on what's to come, setting goals and working towards them... but then we miss out on defining moments unfolding in the present. How do we find success if it's continually leading the race? Up-and-coming singer Dyllan White and I unpack that conundrum in our latest video chat together. You may recall seeing our posts about his Britney Spears mashup and dual-video premieres. I asked him how he defines success and failure, where inspiration comes from and more. Check out our interview together below, then come back on Friday, February 28, for the premiere of his latest video, "JuNgLe." Thoughts? Drop us a line in the comments.
  7. Dyllan White is an up-and-coming independent pop singer with a frenetic energy that's as contagious as it is savage. He's a part of BreatheHeavy's budding Creators program, an initiative to highlight artists on the rise. If you are interested in joining, please email Jordan[@]breatheheavy.com. In case you missed it... Dyllan and I had a video interview chat about how the Internet can be a wondrous yet terrible place some times in regards to releasing your art. Keyboard crusaders have a lot to say now don't they? Side-stepping the haters is an important piece of the puzzle (and a sign you're on the right track), but it's not all about the meanies. Fans of indie pop can feast their eyes on two delicious Dyllan tunes: "shhh I’m Hot!" and "Get Bk @ That." Whether you're with someone on Valentine's Day or not, feel yourself to these. Check them out / read our Q&A together below, then let us know what you think of the songs/videos in the comments. Get Bk @ That: "We all have a crazy mother ****er inside ourselves," he said. "I made a joke about selling an ex’s pet to get back at them and all my friends were dyin with laughter," Dyllan continued of why he wrote "Get Bk @ That." "I was like, yeah that’s goin in a song, so I built a song around that idea." He added: "I wrote half the song while I was in the studio.. and that was the line that really got me in my writing zone... This song was sooo much fun to write and record. To really tap into my dark sense of humor." ****! I’m Hot!: "I was in need of a new confidence track, so I made one. Just something fun to listen to and to sing along to. Get yourself hyped," he said of "****! I'm Hot!" "I want people to listen to this when they need that boost of confidence. Listen to this song when you're getting ready for something that you may be nervous / insecure about. Listen to it when you’re getting ready for a night out, doing cardio in the gym, prepping for a first date or an interview." "This song is to motivate you and give you that last push of 'I CAN DO THIS!'"
  8. Dyllan White is uninhibited in his new visual for "JuNgLe," the latest single from the rising independent pop artist. Dyllan is one of BreatheHeavy's newest Creators artists. Creators is a BreatheHeavy application that highlights and promotes up-and-coming artists. It gives readers a break from the constant cycle of pop titan news, instead providing an opportunity for fans of pop to sink their teeth into something unseen. Following our video interview together is Dyllan's magnetic new clip for "JuNgLe," a lush pop track that showcases our new find's range from obscure to ferocious. "It’s such an animalistic song and I liked the idea of keeping the concept simple," Dyllan tells BreatheHeavy. "I really went back and forth w the concept for this video. Do I actually go make it in the jungle? Do I wear native garb? Should I be all roughed up? I decided to go for a slightly 70s acid trip meets a little bit Coachella. We added the animation afterwards and it really made the video come together." He adds: "It’s definitely a vibe. The music itself is a great walking song, and has good *** appeal. It has a tribal and raw animalistic feel to it." "This song really came together with adding animal noises and layering of my voice to give that tribal feel. This is definitely one of my most 'pop songs' and I hope y’all enjoy it." Thoughts on "JuNgLe?" Let us know what you think in the comments! If you're interested in becoming a part of Creators, please email jordan@breatheheavy.com for more information.
  9. Dyllan White first popped up on BreatheHeavy with a mashup of a few Britney Spears classics. Consider it a stealthy debut for the up-and-comer. Britney is one of the most polarizing pop fixtures on the planet; anything that orbits close to her stardom gets judged with a magnifying glass. Dyllan's remix was no different – the Britney Army had a lot to say about his release, and the reaction was a mixed bag. Dyllan is one of BreatheHeavy's newest Creators. If you are interested in becoming part of it, please email me at Jordan[@]breatheheavy.com. Creators shines a light on independent pop artists. I caught up with Dyllan to gauge his reaction following our premiere post. As someone who's dealt with hurtful Internet comments for more than 15 years, I understand his position. Nobody wants their work judged negatively, but it's also an inseparable piece of the puzzle. Greatness is forged from the push and pull of good and bad, but why does the negativity cling, haunt and sabotage us more than the positive? Check out my interview with Dyllan about that, then let us know what you think in the comments. And while I've got you... keep an eye out for another Dyllan White music premiere post on Valentine's Day. 👀
  10. "No pretending, no personas, no lies." If you need a bop and lit visual to soundtrack your weekend to, give Andrés Sierra's music video for "💕🔛🔥(hearts on fire)" a spin. It's captivating, magnetic, a pure dose of pop. Andrés is one of BreatheHeavy's newest Creators. If you are interested in becoming part of it, please email me at Jordan[@]breatheheavy.com. Creators shines a light on independent pop artists. The Toronto-based, trans singer-songwriter poured their heart 💜 and soul into this guilty pleasure pop gem and gloriously brilliant music video. The track incorporates a nostalgic, pulsating beat that'll inspire you to get up and slink. A lot of new music debuted today from the mega stars, which is why it's important to focus your attention here, now. Andrés and I chatted together about the ups and downs with being trans, how that relates to their music, conquering the mental hurdles of self-doubt and why they started their own company to represent independent artists. Catch that interview linked at the bottom of the post. We also chatted about the new tune. 💕🔛🔥 "A year prior to writing the song, I found Swedish producer Karl Lund on Soundcloud and I reached out asking if he’d like to collab some day. He expressed the dream of creating a queer anthem so I knew that when I finally had something, I’d send it his way," Andrés tells BreatheHeavy. "It started with a simple beat I built on Logic, and the first melody to come out was the first verse right into “hearts on fire”. He liked the demo and I gave him full reign to do whatever he pleased. Inspired by acid house and techno from the 90s, he took the song to a whole other level/direction and I was in love. It was perfect." They add, "I just hope it resonates. Like, I hope the music makes people feel good…and makes them want to dance!" "I tend to get myself into relationships that are doomed from the start, like falling in love with someone from another country or someone who is bound to leave. It’s always serendipitous, innocent at first, not serious… and then it turns out we are perfect for each other and fall madly in love before the reality of living on opposite ends of the earth kicks in. This song is me not giving up on love, a call to show them 'why you need my love.'" "This is the first time I get to be ME AND ONLY ME," Andrés continued. "No pretending, no personas, no lies. To make a video that is unapologetically queer makes me so damn happy you have no idea. It’s also the first release under my label Chévere Music, a division of Sierra Entertainment Inc. I never thought I’d get here so I’m incredibly thankful, and also for your support and giving my music the opportunity to reach more people. THANK YOU!" What do you think of 💕🔛🔥? Let @sierraa and me know how you feel. We're chatting back in the comments.
