  1. Wanting to show some friends For The Record. Anyone know where I can watch in HD? Most streaming sources are low quality and have Spanish/Portuguese captions. TY in advance!
  2. On December 04, 2008, Britney Spears released the Circus music video, the second single to promote her album, also titled Circus. It was originally set to be released on December 05, but it was pushed for an early release. It was directed by Francis Lawrence, who had worked in the past with Britney for her I'm a Slave 4 U video. The Circus video was filmed in the last days of October and early days of November of that year in Los Angeles. Inspired by the 1930's circuses, the video starts with Britney at a vanity where we see her putting on earrings by Bulgari, as well as her perfume Curious. She puts on a jacket and heads to the stage to perform along with her dancers. Throughout the video we see a variety of scenes, from Britney doing the choreography with her backup dancers, a chair routine during the second verse of the song, we see ribbon dancers, clowns, mimes, contortionists, elephants, lions, fire, etc. The video received several nominations at the MTV VMA's 2009, but didn't win any of them: Best Art Direction, Best Choreography (Andre Fuentes), Best Cinematography and Best Editing. It was also nominated for Best Video at the MTV Europe Music Awards of the same year, but lost to Single Ladies. However it won Best Moves at the MTV Australia Awards and Best Video of 2009 in FuseTV. In an interview Britney said she thought about the concept of the video since she listened to the song for the first time. It was also what ultimately gave the concept for the whole album and tour. Britney said about the video: She also talked about picking Francis Lawrence as the director for the video and the choreographer, Andre. The video got criticized by PETA which issued a statement condemning Britney for using "cruelly trained lions and elephants" and demanding her to "stop using exotic animals in her videos and concerts once and for all" (in reference to her 2001 VMA's performance in which she brought a tiger and albino python onstage). They also accused Gari and Kari Johnson, owners of California-based Have Trunk Will Travel, which were the trainers of the elephants that appear on the video, of supporting the use of electric pods to train the animals. Kari told MTV News: There's a Making the Video clip where we can see some comments of Francis Lawrence and Andre Fuentes about the video, and we also get to see different shots, and we even get to see Britney in an outfit holding an umbrella that didn't make the final cut. In the MTV documentary Britney: For the Record, we also get to see more about the behind the scenes of the video, where we also learn that they had technical problems with the wall of fireworks used for some of the solo shots of Britney. The video was uploaded to her YouTube VEVO channel in 2009, where it reached 100M views in 2014. It currently has over 214M views.
  3. On November 28, 2008 Britney Spears released Circus, her sixth studio album, in several European countries. It was released in the United States on December 02 that year, on her birthday. Executive produced by Britney's manager, Larry Rudolph and Theresa LaBarbera, who had collaborated with Britney on Blackout, the predominantly pop album incorporates a lot of rhythms and styles, from sweet ballads such as Out from Under and My Baby, to dance mid-tempos like Unusual You and Shattered Glass, to pop-rock tracks like Rock Me In. The record enlisted many of the collaborators from Britney's past career, like Max Martin, Danja, Guy Sigsworth and Bloodshy & Avant. Other producers were Dr. Luke, Benny Blanco, The Clutch, Fernando Garibay, Rob Knox, The Outsyiders, Nicole Morier, among others. Lady Gaga co-wrote the bonus track exclusive to selected countries, Quicksand. The album topped six charts, including the US BB200 and the European Top 100 Albums, while being Top 5 in 10 other countries. It was also Top 10 in the majority of other countries where it charted. Release History: November 28, 2008 - Germany December 1st, 2008 - UK December 2nd, 2008 - US December 3rd, 2008 - Japan And on November 28, 2019, it was released on vinyl in the US. Four singles off the album were released in total: Womanizer, Circus, If U Seek Amy and Radar, the latter of which was a bonus track that was originally included on her previous album, Blackout. Kill the Lights received a promo release in a limited edition bonus disc that came with the perfume Circus Fantasy, along with a Circus remix. An animated video was made, with a shortened version of the song, after the concept for it won a fan contest where they had to choose a track of the album and elaborate a storyline for a potential video. Unusual You was rumored to be released as a single in some parts such as Australia and New Zealand. The Discogs website lists an unofficial release for the song, that also included Shattered Glass as track 2. It was never confirmed by Britney's team nor record label the legitimacy of the single. The Deluxe edition of the album includes 15 tracks, Radar included. The bonus tracks released across the different versions around the world are Rock Boy, Amnesia, Trouble and Quicksand. There's two CD + DVD editions that include the Womanizer and Circus videos, the making of these and some photo galleries. In the summer of 2008 it was confirmed that Britney was working on her "comeback album". In an interview for OK! Magazine, Britney described the album as being "more urban" and "her best work to date". One of the first producers to be confirmed for the album was Rodney Jerkins, he commented to Rap-UP TV that the two songs he was working on were "very dance-y, really up-tempo, in the clubs, real aggressive, catchy and very hook-friendly. I'm trying to reinvent her and reinvent myself with the project. I think it's about to be her time again". Another producer confirmed at the time was Sean Garrett, he told EW about working with Britney: "We’re trying to take her stuff to the next level. I’m going to come up with something crazy for her. I like to work on an artist when they count them out...and bring them back". None of these producers' songs made the final tracklist. Other collaborators confirmed but that also didn't appear in the final album were Lil Jon and Taio Cruz. Britney mentioned this had been the longest she had worked on an album. She described Circus as being "lighter" in comparison to the previous record Blackout. On her birthday in 2008, the day of the release of the album in the US, she performed Circus and Womanizer on Good Morning America. Other promo performances for this era were the Bambi Awards in Germany, Star Academy in France, The X Factor UK and in Japan Hey! Hey! Hey! Music Champ and NTV Best Artist. She performed Womanizer in all these appearances. Besides that, in 2009 she embarked on The Circus Starring: Britney Spears tour, however only the 4 singles and Mannequin were included on the setlist. Lace and Leather would be later performed at her Femme Fatale Tour in 2011.
  4. I think it would be INSANE seeing primeney perform “Gimme More” from the Femme Fatale tour. It’s just so grand and even with the minimal dancing there is still a lot to take in. She would’ve added better choreography and I feel like it would go down as one of her best. Thoughts?
  5. Coco discusses the making of the song at 10:40. Coco reveals that she and Britney wrote it together and that she loved it instantly.
  6. Hey Exhalers, I bet "Blur" isn't a fan favorite from the "Circus" album, but it's still a gem and an outstanding track from the rest of the album, in my option. I adore Britney's low-deep vocals in it, and I've learned to appreciate them with every listen. "Blur" deserved a release! This time, I created front and back cover artwork with the "Explicit" version we all wish would exist on the album version. I put some blur effects (DUH) to the artwork and chose a font that blends well with the vibes and production of the song. Moreover, I included additional b-sides, "Heartbeat" (produced by Danja) and "I'll Take It From Here (produced by Bloodshy & Avant). How would you imagine the music video for the song? I'd love to hear your thoughts on the design in the comments...
  7. On July 27, 2009, Britney Spears released an animated music video for Kill the Lights. On February 10, 2009, a fan fiction contest was launched on britney.com. The winner of the contest would get to see their story becoming a plot for an official music video of any song from the Circus album. Later, the winner of the contest was announced. It was Eliana Moyano from Argentina, who picked Kill the Lights and this was her entry: On May 18, we got a sneak peek of the video The video was directed by PUNY and was released for purchase via iTunes on September 4, 2009. The video only features about half of the song, and though some fans consider it the continuation of Break the Ice (which also got an animated video) this relationship was never confirmed. Kill the Lights was not released as an official single, but it was included in the promotional CD that came with the perfume Circus Fantasy released later in the year, along with Circus (Junior Vasquez Club Circus Mix).
  8. Hey everyone, this is my first thread (I think, quote me if I'm wrong ) and I wanted to talk about the everlasting "The Circus Starring: Britney Spears" tour. To me this tour holds more than great overall charisma and budget, it felt like absolute magic. Every song, every dance, every prop is there for a reason, and this tour was LOADED with it all! ZERO budget restrictions and in its entirety it was one of the most perfect tours ever especially to comeback with, even if there was only a pinch of live vocals spread throughout the entirety of the tour BUT! Let's all discuss! What's some of your fave parts of the show? What did you love about the show? What do you wish could've had a bit more improving on? In a kindly manor let's make sure we don't spread hate but personal wishes instead My favorite part has GOT to be the Ooh Ooh Baby performance where she had a bunch of magic tricks performed on her, I can't imagine what it must've been like to see it all live!
  9. Music director Simon Ellis reveals he wrote the dialogue of the circus introduction and that it was Jamie king’s idea to open the show with the title track. Simon mixed 5 versions of circus for the tour, one of the versions is heard as the outro of the show which was supposed to be used for the opening but Britney and Jamie thought the song itself sounded too different but decided to use it anyway because he says he loved it Simon said piece of me is one of his favourite songs and that Britney always wanted a lot of the blackout album in the show because she loves the album so much. Simon also says he mixed a version of Stronger that was never used that sampled daft punk. At the end of you can hear one of simon’s tour mix of circus
  10. WITH THIS FAST CAR I CAN REALLY GET FAR AND DON'T WORRY MY HEART LET'S MAKE OUT Yes my fellow exhalers, the hate this bop always gets it's not acceptable anymore! I bet Britney herself (which co-wrote the track aswell) had a lot of fun recording it, it's vintage, it's funky and probably the first ever subtle shade to, y'know...her papi. So, whenever walking down the streets or driving a Maserati, turn the radio up, and stan Mmm Papi!
  11. So in the past I believed that "My Baby" from the "Circus" album was not it. The song seemed so out of place on the album and down right boring. Especially with its cringe-worthy placing immediately following "Lace And Leather" (such an odd choice) ...but I decided to give the track a few plays recently and slowly warmed up to its sweet tenderness. I've done a 180° and now believe that with an altered placement behind "Out From Under", "My Baby" fits more comfortably into the "Circus" flow. Try it out yourselves, I'd love to know your thoughts...
  12. On March 12, 2009, Britney Spears released the If U Seek Amy video, the third one to promote her Circus album. It was filmed in February and was directed by Jake Nava, who had already worked with her in 2004 for the My Prerogative music video. The video starts with a parody of news anchor Megyn Kelly, who criticized the double meaning in the lyrics of the song when it was first sent to radio in January, after being chosen as the next single by the fans on an online poll. Megyn Kelly seemed to be thrilled about the homage In 2018, Kristina Mitchell, the actress that played the reporter, talked to Yahoo about her experience on the IUSA video. After the jab at Fox News, we skip to Britney waking up from what seems to have been a super fun slumber party She's wearing a corset and black, wet-look leggins (which could be replicated, according to her stylist for the shoot David Thomas, by getting them at American Apparel and "just fold them in half and then you put slits in it, but you don't slit it where your knees are") as well as a pair of red Louboutin shoes, that weren't on sale to the public until a month later. After a dance sequence in the living room accompanied by her cheerleader dancers, Britney puts on a more conservative outfit, reminiscent of a 50's housewife, a short blond wig, and grabs a baked apple pie as she prepares to exit the house, where she's joined by her husband and two children (including a little girl dressed up in the schoolgirl outfit from ...Baby One More Time) to greet the media that's waiting for her outside. She blows a kiss to the camera and then we see the news reporter again finishing with the classic tagline "doesn't make any sense, does it?" MTV news described it as an amalgamation of all the different moments from her career up to that point, from the BOMT reference, the ***iness of Toxic and Womanizer, the shot style from Everytime, the panties reference from Piece of Me. We could also add that the news anchor, though it was clearly a parody of Megyn Kelly's recent statements, is also reminiscent of the Overprotected (Darkchild Remix) video intro. The video hit 100M views on her official YouTube channel on May 2020 and it was upgraded to "HD" just one day before its anniversary. The video reached #7 on the 2009's yearly Top 100 aired by MTV Latin America. Related:
  13. On March 10, 2009, Britney Spears released If U Seek Amy, the third single off her sixth studio album Circus. It was written and produced by Max Martin, with additional writing by Shellback, Savan Kotecha and Alexander Kronlund. The song talks about looking for a girl named Amy who is nowhere to be found, though its title suggest a different meaning when it's rapidly pronounced during the chorus. So much, that the song received complaints from the Parents Television Council, thus leading radio to air a censored version instead, If U See Amy. Notoriously, Megyn Kelly from Fox News denounced the nature of the lyrics in January; this would be then addressed with a parody in the official music video of the song, which anniversary will be celebrated in a few days. Despite the controversy, the song peaked at #19 on the Billboard Hot 100 and #16 on the US Dance Club Songs chart, while hitting #8 on the Mainstream Top 40. It went #1 in Brazil and it was Top 20 in several other countries. If U Seek Amy was chosen as the third single in an online poll on Britney's official website. It was announced in December 2008 as the winner with 26% of the votes, leaving behind Kill the Lights and Out from Under as the closest options. Blur who? The electropop song was the first time Britney collaborated with Max Martin since her third studio album Britney, released in 2001. She talked a little bit about it in an interview in 2008 If U Seek Amy joined the group of many other singles which never received TV promo performances. However, it's been performed live on her Circus Tour in 2009, Femme Fatale Tour in 2011 and it was incorporated to her Piece of Me show in Vegas since the revamp in 2016. In June 2009, a remix EP for the single was released, including remixes by Junior Vasquez, Mike Rizzo, Crookers among others.
  14. So, i believe Circus recording sessions lasted only six to eight months and we indeed have a few unreleased tracks that may suggest its original concept, such as Dangerous, This Kiss and Abroad. Then we have other officially released tracks like Mmm Papi, Rock Me In, If You Seek Amy, Amnesia, Rock Boy and Lace & Leather. All the tracks i've mentioned before have for sure one thing in common: retro vibes! But her team at the time had the urge to herbal to release it as soon as possibile, because y'know, the "comeback"...so they threw out there a couple of potential Blackout left-outs (Kill The Lights and Blur), recycled Radar (because why not ), called Max Martin/Dr...well, that producer from Kemosabe Records, for a couple of 'ready-to-go" charts' bops...and that's why Circus is still nowadays to me her most inchoesive album sonically, despite beign in my Top 3 favourite of hers. A rushed album that deserved more, tbh.
  15. On March 03, 2009, The Circus Starring Britney Spears tour kicked off in New Orleans. In order to support her sixth studio album, the Circus Tour would be Britney Spears' "comeback" tour since her Onyx Hotel Tour in 2004, and after a so-called "public breakdown" in 2007. This was her first tour after being placed under a conservatorship in 2008, despite which, she showed to be totally capable of performing complex dance routines, memorize lyrics, interact with props, participate in magic tricks and even being lifted in the air while blindfolded on the back of two aerialists. The tour got two legs in North America, one in Europe and another one in Australia, where it ended in November, after 97 shows and 1.5M in attendance. The Circus Tour grossed $131.8M (around $160M today) becoming the fifth highest grossing tour of 2009 and 16th overall in the decade of the 00's. Choreographer Jamie King did the casting of the dancers and acrobats while Simon Ellis was in charge of the musical direction. The production design was done by Road Rage, developing the big, circular stage with two smaller satellite rings at the sides, all of which resembled an actual three-ring circus, that was built by Tait Towers. A cylindrical screen above the stage was built by Solotech. Despite its name, the setlist actually included more songs from her albums In the Zone and Blackout, rather than Circus. Circus Piece of Me Radar Ooh Ooh Baby / Hot As Ice Boys If U Seek Amy Me Against the Music (Bollywood Remix) Everytime Freakshow Get Naked (I Got a Plan) Breathe on Me / Touch of My Hand Do Somethin' I'm a Slave 4 U Toxic ...Baby One More Time Womanizer Besides these, the opening night she covered Duffy's I'm Scared. And in subsequent legs, she performed Mannequin and Alanis Morissette's You Oughta Know. The concert was never broadcasted live and it didn't receive any DVD release as her previous tours. However, some professional footage of the Copenhagen date exists, provided by Yahoo. While in Paris, Britney talked to ET about the changes on the European leg, and some of her dancers showed the outfits worn onstage. They also revealed Britney and Chase choreographed Mannequin. Feel free to share your favorite clips of the tour, as well as pictures and outfits
  16. (hi this is my first thread on here!) so i was reading old interviews from the circus era and i found that during the rolling stone cover britney did where she mentioned a new song that she had written in the summer of 2008. this is an expert from the interview that accesshollywood put in an article: “[It’s] about artistic expression and the masquerade of people acting and putting on shows,” Britney said of the unnamed cut she wrote last summer. “Through that, you create your own world. The song talks about how other people are coming into this girl’s world, but she didn’t invite them in. So she’s saying, ‘Why are you here, if I didn’t invite you?’ It’s complicated, but you can tell it’s me who wrote it, because it’s in my voice and there’s a difference.” Though she revealed herself in at least one of the expected songs on “Circus,” Britney told the magazine she was frightened of being too open. “It’s scary to put yourself out there and be like, ‘Oh, God, is that cool?’ If you’re not going to really go for it, you can’t just go there halfway,” she said. “But sometimes, when you go for it, you can’t lose.” do we know anything else about this song? like why was it cut? what was the title? im really curious about it since the concept seems really interesting. here's the link to where i found the quote if anyone wants it: https://www.accessonline.com/articles/britney-spears-on-her-kids-opening-herself-up-for-circus-66390
  17. Imagine Britney's real deep voice for this! Honestly Circus needed this song. Could have replaced Rock Me In Britney we want more R&B bangers like "U" for B10! Thoughts, Exhale?
  18. Britney entering the cage (conservatorship) performing a song about everyone wanting a piece of her; money, career, life achievements etc A golden cage.... Britney earning so much money from working hard but not having access to it The dancers dragging the cage and dancing around it.. people in her life coming in and out (some for harm, some for good) I'm Mrs. 'You want a piece of me?'Tryin' and pissin' me offWell get in line with the paparazziWho's flippin' me offHopin' I'll resort to startin' havocAnd end up settlin' in courtNow are you sure you want a piece of me? this part of the song now hits differently, this performance hits differently and how things turned out Britney we are so proud of you no longer a caged bird
  19. On December 02, 2008, the day of her 27th birthday, Britney Spears released Circus, the second single off her sixth studio album of the same name. The electropop song was written and produced by Dr. Luke, with collaboration of Claude Kelly, Benjamin Levin and Benny Blanco. Lyrically it talks about Britney's life and career as entertainer and her relationship with the media and the public that observes her, comparing her to a circus performer. In an interview for Hit Quarters, Claude Kelly commented about how Circus came about: Britney herself revealed to have been inspired by this song to set the concept of the album and her tour around it, it "put the whole album together as far as what I wanted my show to be like. You can play with a circus in so many different ways". The song peaked at #3 on the BBH100, but it reached #1 on the Pop Songs and Digital Songs charts, as well the Canadian chart. It was Top 10 in several countries where it charted. The song was performed the same day it was sent to radio on Good Morning America. It was also the release date of Circus, the album in the United States. It was the opening song of her 2009 tour The Circus Starring: Britney Spears And in 2013 it was added to the setlist of her Vegas residency Britney: Piece of Me, where it stayed till the end of the show, including the Asian Tour in 2017 and the Piece of Me Tour in 2018. The music video, directed by Francis Lawrence was released on December 04.
  20. Different vocal takes + slightly different instrumental
  21. Here you can find the other posts regarding the albums. Voting will be closed when I finish all the albums.
