Like Santa setting off on his annual airborne sleigh ride, Mariah Carey makes her ascent back to the top of the Billboard Hot 100 songs chart with “All I Want for Christmas Is You.” The modern carol logs its ninth total week atop the Hot 100 and becomes the first song to have led in four distinct runs on the ranking. Four decades into her incredible career and showing no signs of stopping any time soon. UPDATE: Carey has now spent 89 total weeks at number-one, far more than any other artist in history. In addition to this, “All I Want for Christmas” has now spent 10 total weeks at number-one. It’s the only song that has reached number-one during four separate chart runs. It also gives Carey thelongest span of number-one hits in history.

Why did Britney underperform on US radio so much? Britney is undoubtedly one of the biggest popstars of all time, but for whatever reason(s), US radios never seemed to warm up to her so much. FYI: I’m well aware of the radio blacklisting and how it affected her single performances. But what befuddles me even more is the performance of her pre- & post-blacklisted singles on the Billboard Radio Songs chart. According thereto, Britney Spears never had a #1 hit on US radio. Baby One More Time peaked at #8 (?!?), as did Oops. In fact, none of her pre-blacklist singles even reached the top 5 on US radio, and just two of her post-blacklist singles. Till the World Ends and Scream & Shout (which isnt even her song). Does anyone have any explanation/speculation about why this was? I’d be grateful.

2020 is a terrible year for everyone. Some artists still worked hard to push out music for fans to listen to during the difficult period. IFPI has revealed the top 10 selling artists in the world in 2020 (in equivalent album units). 1. BTS 2. Taylor Swift 3. Drake 4. The Weeknd 5. Billie Eilish 6. Eminem 7. Post Malone 8. Ariana Grande 9. Juice Wrld 10. Justin Bieber This is the first time a non-English music artist has topped the year-end chart. Of course my husband would top the chart. No surprise. I bought 30 of his albums last year.

One of Ava Max's recent releases, "Kings & Queens" debuted on the Hot 100 this week at #73. Max has released a string of guilty pop pleasures, though she's had trouble breaking into the mainstream, however... it appears things are shifting for her. Ava just dropped another song titled "Who's Laughing Now," which seems appropriate considering the amount of hate she gets on the Internet. Future queen of pop. Coming for Katy and Gaga's crown. When will your faves? For real though, congrats to her! She makes pretty great pop music, so the more people that know about her imo the better. Stream "Kings and Queens" for clear skin. Thoughts, Exhale? UPDATE: The song has achieved a new peak on the Billboard Hot 100 at #22 and seems to be slowly increasing. UPDATE 2: As of 11/29, the song reached a new peak at #13 almost 9 months after its release. A longevity queen Related:

Congratulations are in order to to Doja Cat and Nicki Minaj! Their "Say So" remix hit #1 on the Billboard Hot 100, marking the first time either Doja or Nicki have claimed a #1. That's right, this is Nicki Minaj's first-ever #1. Nicki shattered the record for the longest wait for a first Hot 100 No. 1, by total career entries, as "Say So" is her 109th charted title on the tally (which is also a record amount of entries). Megan Thee Stallion and Beyonce's "Savage" remix took #2. Some stats from Billboard: Let's celebrate to women ruling the Hot 100 this week!

Exhale, help me understand. Lady Gaga's new song "Stupid Love" is already out of the Top 200 on Spotify in the US (source). I am actually pretty shocked about that. The song is a BOP! But it appears the GP is not here for it. They like A Star Is Bornga better. It's not all bad though. It's sitting at #32 on the Hot 100 six weeks in. It debuted at #5. Why did Stupid Love not perform better? Can someone explain why they think it didn't have mainstream success?
