On January 17, 2000, the 27th American Music Awards took place at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles. Britney Spears received the award for Favorite Pop/Rock New Artist. She was also nominated for Best Pop/Rock Female Artist but lost to Shania Twain, and ...Baby One More Time was nominated for Favorite Pop/Rock Album but lost to Santana's Supernatural.

On January 13, 2003, the 30th American Music Awards took place at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles (not to be confused with the 31st AMA's which also took place in 2003). While Britney Spears was completely snubbed from nominations, she was there to present Shania Twain. Related:

On January 11, 1999, the 26th Annual American Music Awards took place at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles hosted by Brandy and Melissa Joan Hart. Shania Twain had the most nominations (5) though Will Smith was the biggest winner of the night, with 3 awards. This also happened to be Britney Spears' first red carpet appearance. She had just released her debut single ...Baby One More Time 3 months earlier, and her debut album was 1 day away from coming out. At the time she was the opening act of the second leg of NSYNC's NSYNC in Concert tour.

On January 08, 2001, the 28th American Music Awards took place at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles. They were hosted by Britney Spears and LL Cool J. Britney herself was one of the performers of the night, along with Jennifer Lopez, Toni Braxton, Pink, Jessica Simpson, Ricky Martin, Marilyn Manson, among others. Faith Hill was the biggest winner of the night with 3 awards. Britney Spears got several nominations, but didn't take any of the awards: Artist of the Year - lost to *NSync Favorite Pop/Rock Female Artist - lost to Faith Hill Favorite Pop/Rock Album (Oops!... On November 16, 2003 the 31st Annual American Music Awards took place at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles. This would be the second ceremony of the year, since the 30th AMA's took place in January that year. Britney Spears was one of the performers of the night, opening the show with Me Against the Music. And even though Madonna won the Artist of the Year award, she wasn't there to perform the song with her. Other performers of the night were Pink, Hilary Duff, Ashanti, Andre 3000, among others.
