Once they start creating new music from our favorite pop stars, without our favorite pop stars participating, it's over. A new technology called Jukebox was just released. It's described as "a neural net that generates music, including rudimentary singing, as raw audio in a variety of genres and artist styles." The AI generates raw audio of genre-specific songs. "We chose to work on music because we want to continue to push the boundaries of generative models," Jukebox says. Brilliant, but terrifying. I'll dive into their expansive pop sector, which features imitations of recordings from some of our biggest pop stars, like Britney Spears, Taylor Swift, Katy Perry, Ariana Grande, Lady Gaga, Celine Dion, Elton John, P!nk, Johnny Cash, Ella Fitzgerald and many more. Keep in mind they've created hundreds of songs by hundreds of musicians from all different genres. Sometimes the audio sounds nothing like the aritst, and other times it does. The Katy Perry one is creepy. They're not very good at the moment, but to me this is an indicator of where things are going... and it WILL get better over time.
