  1. Simon Cowell has revealed he offered a songwriter a Mercedes to give his band Five the now-hit track Hit Me Baby One More Time, but it had already been promised to Britney Spears. The record executive, 62, said he told Swedish producer Max Martin that 'no one is going to have a hit with the name Britney Spears' as he tried to bag the 1998 track. He said he was desparate to get Hit Me Baby One More Time - which was originally penned for TLC - for his own boy band Five, as he was sure it was going to be a hit. Speaking on the Howie Mandel Does Stuff podcast, Simon said he even went as far as to offer Max a flash Mercedes in exchange for what became a chart-topping track. But Simon explained that he sadly 'missed out' on the song as Max, who has penned songs for Katy Perry and the Backstreet Boys, said he had already promised the song to Britney, which became her break into the music industry. Simon explained: 'I had a boy band at the time called Five, who I'd put together, we were just on the verge of breaking them from America. 'Someone phones me from America and says I've just been played this song. It was written for TLC, and he played me down the phone to me and was like, 'oh my God, I've got to have this song'. 'So I phoned up Max and said 'please, please give me this song'. And he went, 'I've promised it to someone else'. And I said, 'well I'll send you a Mercedes 500 SL if I can have this song'. 'And he went 'no, I've promised it to somebody else'. And I said 'who?' and he went, 'Britney Spears'. And I said 'Max, let me give you some advice, no one is going to have a hit with the name Britney Spears'. She wasn't even known.' Despite missing out on the song, which went on to top the charts in 22 countries, Simon said Max made the 'right decision' in keeping his promise to give the song to Britney. 'He's honourable. He promised the song and he wasn't going to break the promise, and look, he made the right decision,' he said. 🔴Source: dailymail
  2. In 2002, 11 years Before britney’s stint on Simon’s hit show the X factor, Simon Cowell didn’t believe Britney was **** and says he wanted “baby one more time” to possibly give to one of his signed artists after TLC turned it down. In 2008, Cowell would also state that britney’s critically acclaimed/pop influential/fan favourite album “blackout” was not a good album preferred to circus but in 2012 he had a reality check when audiences responded well to Britney describing her X factor audition entrances as no other entrance he’s ever seen, in his words “total utter star power, mystique and unpredictability”
  3. On September 12, 2012, the first episode of auditions from the second season of The X Factor USA was aired. Britney Spears joined Simon Cowell, Demi Lovato and L. A. Reid on the judge panel. The auditions had been recorded from May - July, and they had no hosts, since they haven't been hired yet at the time. On this first episode we could see clips from the auditions in Austin, San Francisco and Providence.
  4. On July 22, 2012, the Teen Choice Awards took place at the Gibson Amphitheatre in Los Angeles, and were hosted by Demi Lovato and Kevin McHale. Britney, Simon Cowell and L. A. Reid sent a message to Demi. It starts around the 4:40 mark.
  5. After 11 years, Simon's Syco Music and Sony Music entertainment are to part ways. Sony Music was Syco's distribution label for X Factor acts like Little Mix, Camila Cabello, Cher Lloyd and countless others. It's not without any controversy as several groups and artists have called Syco on artistic directions such as Cher Lloyd, who butted heads with Simon on the direction of "Sorry I'm Late." She got out of the contract after several delays. The album was quietly released, but Cher, Syco and Sony did no promotion at all. It's rumored Simon prevented Cher from signing to any label. She had to establish an independent record label to find a loop hole for major label distribution. Fifth Harmony's original contracts between management and Syco gave the girls less creative control and money issues. A lawyer through Larry Rudolph saw that the contract basically made them work for free. Little Mix is a little more controversial. They and Modest! Management called out Simon over creative control. Lack of several writing credits, including "Woman Like Me" (the platinum BPI hit with Nicki Minaj). They took him to court. The court ruled in the Girls favor. Little Mix switched LM5 to RCA UK, but because of this, Simon refuses to work with Modest! Management so he let Rak Su go cos of this. They went To RCA. With the 10-year One Direction announcement coming, it seems Syco and Sony separated due to the boys Being with Modest! Management. Sony will own the masters to previous Syco releases, but future Syco issues like Camila, who still owes four more album to Syco, will be independent music releases.
