  1. Though it originally came out on November 3, 2004 in Europe, it was on November 9 that the Greatest Hits: My Prerogative album was released in the United States, Britney Spears' first compilation album that included her hits from her first four studio records, plus three new tracks, but actually, it was originally scheduled for a November 16 release. An accompanying DVD of the same name was also released, which included her entire videography to date, plus alternative versions / cut content from many of her very well known music videos, which could be unlocked interactively. Two of the new tracks were released as singles to promote the album: My Prerogative, a Bobby Brown cover, had been released on September as the lead single and Do Somethin', produced by Bloodshy & Avant, would be released on February 2005. I've Just Begun (Having My Fun) had already been released as a digital single in August as (I've Just Begun) Having My Fun ( ) and it was the only track that didn't receive a music video. Technically speaking, the compilation was recorded from 1997 to 2004, since it included her hits from ...Baby One More Time, Oops!... I Did It Again, Britney and In the Zone, her first four studio albums, all of which went #1 on the Billboard 200. Some critics felt that it was too soon for Britney to be releasing a greatest hits compilation six years into her career, but the truth is that the tracklist of this album includes literally hit after hit, showing Britney's different styles through the years and no song feels like a filler at all. Several editions were released around the world, being the Australia / UK / Japan one the most complete: My Prerogative Toxic I'm a Slave 4 U Oops!... I Did It Again Me Against the Music (ft. Madonna) Stronger Everytime ...Baby One More Time (You Drive Me) Crazy (The Stop Remix!) Boys (Co-Ed Remix ft. Pharrell Williams) Sometimes Overprotected (The Darkchild Remix) Lucky Outrageous Don't Let Me Be the Last to Know Born to Make You Happy I Love Rock 'n' Roll I'm Not a Girl, Not Yet a Woman I've Just Begun (Having My Fun) Do Somethin' A limited edition bonus disc was also part of the compilation: Toxic (Armand Van Helden Remix) Everytime (Hi-Bas Radio Remix) Breathe on Me (Jacques Lu Cont Mix) Outrageous (Junkie XL's Dancehall Mix) Stronger (Miguel 'Migs' Vocal Mix) I'm a Slave 4 U (Thunderpuss Club Mix) Chris Cox Megamix with the Hong Kong edition including an Extended version of the Chris Cox Megamix. The album debuted and peaked at #4 on the US Billboard 200, but it went #1 on the French, Greek, Irish, Japanese and Scottish charts, #2 on the UK, Belgian, Dannish and Finnish charts and #3 on the Canadian and European Top 100 charts. It was certified Platinum and has sold over 7M copies around the world. The DVD comprised all of her videos from 1998 to 2004, and it even included footage from the scrapped Outrageous video, which couldn't be finished due to her knee injury while shooting the clip. Two menus let you go from all of her videos from ...Baby One More Time to My Prerogative, while the other menu was for the alternate cuts with never before seen footage from videos ...Baby One More Time, (You Drive Me) Crazy, Oops!... I Did It Again, Stronger, Don't Let Me Be the Last to Know, I'm a Slave 4 U, Toxic, Everytime and My Prerogative. Crazy and Slave received new vocal mixes, and Toxic had a karaoke version of the song showing the diamonds scene. The third alternative version of My Prerogative appeared as hidden footage. It peaked at #3 on the Billboard Top Music Videos and stayed on the chart for 22 weeks. It was certified double platinum in the US, Argentina and Australia and according to ABPD it was the second most selling video of 2004.
  2. "To date, My Prerogative remains one of the few Britney Spears singles never to have been performed live (Criminal being the other omission). In part, that’s because of what was happening at the time; but also due to the circumstances of the years that followed. It would have been absurd – indeed, cruel – for Britney Spears to sing: “I don’t need permission, make my own decisions” while under a conservatorship, and that it was allegedly intended for the cancelled Britney: Domination Las Vegas residency is an odd decision. However, My Prerogative was – and probably always will be – topical where Britney Spears is concerned. Even though they’re not her words, the sentiment behind them could not have been truer". - Can't Stop The Pop Justice for My Prerogative! Read More: Britney Spears - My Prerogative - Can't Stop The Pop WWW.CANTSTOPTHEPOP.COM After years of intense media scrutiny on her every move, Britney Spears answered back with a cover of Bobby Brown's 'My Prerogative'.
  3. On September 16, 2004, Britney Spears' My Prerogative music video premiered on TRL. It was the lead single off the upcoming Greatest Hits: My Prerogative, her first compilation album. This was the first music video she shot after the knee injury she suffered on the videoshoot of Outrageous. This video was directed by Jake Nava and it was inspired on the old Hollywood glamour. In the video, Kevin Federline makes a cameo and towards the end, a priest celebrates their wedding. Their real wedding would take place just 4 days after the premiere of the video. We see her driving a Porsche into a pool, wandering around in lingerie, and there's also some scenes in the bed that are shot in black and white. There's an alternative video, "the bed version" which only shows footage from this set. It was included on the Greatest Hits: My Prerogative DVD. It spent 47 days on the TRL countdown, and it landed at #7 on the MTV Latin America's yearly Top 100 (Los 100 + Pedidos) of 2004.
  4. Out of the 3x videos Britney has done which featured a significant other, which video do you think is the best? 1) My Prerogative 2) Slumber Party 3) Criminal (in that order for me) Luckily they’re all really great videos but MP just oozes s**, great and dark vibes and amazing attitude from Britney! It’s also my fave song out of the 3
  5. On September 21, 2004, Britney Spears released My Prerogative, the lead single off her Greatest Hits: My Prerogative compilation album. The song had already been leaked on September 10 as part of the mixtape The Future of R&B by the Real Tapemasters, and the music video premiered on September 16. The song is a cover of Bobby Brown's 1988 hit, with some lyric adjustments to fit Britney's gender. Britney's version was produced by Bloodshy & Avant, the producers of Toxic, and it was recorded in May 2004, during the European leg of The Onyx Hotel Tour. The producers of the song replaced the original's bass sound with a synthpop sound, synthesizers and added elements of Bollywood music. Jennifer Vineyard of MTV commented the cover could be interpreted as a statement on Spears' life and the media reaction to some of her decisions at the time, including her engagement to American dancer Kevin Federline (who she married on September 18 of that year). The song failed to enter the BBH100 (it peaked at #1 in the Bubbling Under chart ) but it reached #22 at the Top 40 Tracks chart and #32 at the Mainstream Top 40. It also peaked at #3 in the Digital Song Sales chart. In the UK it landed at #3, only surpassed by Eminem's Just Lose It and Destiny's Child Lose My Breath. It hit the Top 10 in many European countries, including #1 in Finland, Ireland, Italy and Norway. The song has never been performed live. However, according to Nappytabs, My Prerogative was going to be part of the setlist of Britney Spears' cancelled residency in Las Vegas, Domination, which was set to start in 2019.
  6. "People can take everything away from you But they can never take away your truth But the question is Can you handle mine?" "They say I'm crazy, I really don't care That's my prerogative They say I'm nasty, but I don't give a damn" "Everybody's talking all this stuff about me Why don't they just let me live?" "I don't need permission, make my own decisions"
