Mexican singer Ariadna Thalia Sodi Miranda Mottola, simply known as Thalia was born on August 26, 1971 in Mexico City. At age 9 she joined children's group Pac Man, later known as Din-Din to participate in a TV music festival called Juguemos a Cantar, and later in 1986, she would join Timbiriche, one of the most successful pop groups ever in Latin America, until she left the band in 1989 to pursue a solo career. Parallel to her singing career, she ventured into acting in the late 80's, a highlight being her participation in the juvenile soap opera Quinceañera, and later starring in the "trilogy of the Marías" in the 90's: María Mercedes (1992), Mari Mar (1994) and María la del Barrio (1995), which have been aired in over 180 countries around the world, giving her the title of "Queen of telenovelas" and making her the highest paid actress ever in Televisa, the biggest TV network in Mexico. Her telenovelas helped her music reach non-Spanish speaking territories, such as Europe and Asia, becoming the most widely recognized Spanish-speaking soap star in the world, and even obtaining the legend status in the Philippines. Her last telenovela so far has been Rosalinda in 1999. After leaving Timbiriche in 1989, she moved to Spain where she hosted the late night show VIP Noche, and then she was signed by the now defunct Melody, who published her first three studio albums: Thalía (1990), Mundo de Cristal (1991) and Love (1992). She caused controversy with her provocative image and the topics of her songs, as well as the outrageous outfits she would wear onstage. Then she was signed with EMI with whom she released her next seven studio albums, the first of which gave her her first international hits, including the opening themes of her telenovelas. In 1995 she released En Éxtasis, which sold over 2 million copies worldwide. The singles were Piel Morena, Amándote, María la del Barrio, Quiero Hacerte el Amor and Gracias a Dios. In 1997 she released a special album for the Philippines, Nandito Ako, recorded in English and Tagalog, certified 3x Platinum there. Later that same year, her follow-up studio album, Amor a la Mexicana was released, with the song of the same name released as the lead single, followed by 6 other singles including Por Amor and Mujer Latina. In 2000, Arrasando was released, one of the most successful albums of her career. The singles were Entre el Mar y una Estrella, Regresa a Mí, Arrasando, Menta y Canela, Reencarnación and Rosalinda. Her second self-titled album, Thalía, was released in 2002. Tú y Yo, No Me Enseñaste, ¿A Quién le Importa? and Dance Dance (The Mexican) were released as singles to promote this record. Following that, in 2003, her third self-titled album Thalía was released, this one recorded in English. I Want You / Me Pones **** was a collaboration with Fat Joe, released as the lead single, peaking at #22 on the BBH100. Other singles were Baby, I'm in Love / Alguien Real, Don't Look Back/Toda la Felicidad, Closer to You/Cerca de Ti and Dance Dance (The Mexican). Her compilation Greatest Hits was released in 2004, promoting it with the single Acción y Reacción. El ***to Sentido was released in 2005. Amar Sin Ser Amada, Un Alma Sentenciada, Seducción and Olvídame were the singles off this album. Lunada was released in 2008 and it would be her last album under EMI. She struggled with the Lyme disease after being bitten by a tick, forcing her to cancel further promotion for this record besides the lead single Ten Paciencia and promo single Será Porque Te Amo, thus making it one of her least successful albums in terms of sales. However, she would come back the following year, with Primera Fila, a live album, the first one to be released under her new contract with Sony Music. Equivocada, Qué Será de Ti, Con la Duda, Estoy Enamorado, Enséñame a Vivir and El Próximo Viernes were released as singles. In 2012, Habítame Siempre was released, topping the Latin charts in the US. Manías, Te Perdiste Mi Amor and La Apuesta were the three singles to promote this record. In 2013, yet another self-titled album was released, Thalía, this time a compilation album exclusive to Brazil, that included 4 songs re-recorded in Portuguese. Estou Apaixonado was the only single, and it featured singer Daniel. In a surprising turn of events, in 2014 she released her first album for children, Viva Kids. It mostly contained covers of traditional songs for children. And later that year, she would release Amore Mio, with the singles Por Lo Que Reste de Vida, Amore Mio, Como Tú No Hay Dos and Sólo Parecía Amor. In 2016, she released Latina, with the lead single Desde Esa Noche featuring Maluma, followed by Vuélveme a Querer and Todavía Te Quiero. Her fifteenth studio album Valiente was released in 2018. Her mega successful hit No Me Acuerdo featuring Natti Natasha appeared in almost 30 charts around the world, and the music video was the first one to reach a billion views on Youtube by a Mexican artist. Around this time, a video of hers that she did during a Facebook Live transmission went viral because of the several things she did during the chat with her fans, leading to the release of the song Me Oyen, Me Esuchan. Other singles were Lento, Lindo Pero Bruto, Qué Ironía, Ahí, Vikingo and Por Amor al Arte. In 2020, in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic, she released Viva Kids Vol. 2, the follow up to her children's album from 2014. This time, all the songs were new tracks written by Thalia herself. And in 2021, desAMORfosis was released as her seventeenth studio album. It featured the singles released throughout 2020 plus a few new songs: Ya Tú Me Conoces, La Luz, Tick Tock, Mojito, Eres Mío and Cancelado. Related:

Paulina Susana Rubio Dosamantes, better known as Paulina Rubio or La Chica Dorada (the Golden Girl) was born on June 17, 1971 in Mexico City, daughter of legendary actress Susana Dosamantes. She started her career in 1982 as one of the original members of pop band Timbiriche, the teen sensation which would become one of the biggest groups of Latin Pop's history. Despite not having the greatest voice ( ) she always stood out for her image and confident attitude, and her mythical rivalry with bandmate Thalia was key for the success of the band. She left the group in 1991, becoming one of original members that lasted the longest. After this she launched her solo career, releasing her first studio album La Chica Dorada, with a lead single that became one of the most iconic songs of her career, Mío. The single was a response to Alejandra Guzmán's Hey Güera. Turns out this was all about a love triangle between them and fellow Timbiriche member Erik Rubín (they all claim to be in good terms now that he married another woman that's neither of them ). Other singles from that album were Abriendo las Puertas al Amor, Amor de Mujer and Sabor a Miel. That same year she participated on the soap opera Baila Conmigo In 1993, she released her second album 24 Kilates, with the singles Nieva, Nieva, Él Me Engañó, Vuelve Junto a Mí and Asunto de Dos. El Tiempo es Oro would come in 1995, and just like the title says, she didn't waste time this year. Besides releasing this third studio effort, she also starred in the film Bésame en la Boca as well as the soap opera Pobre Niña Rica. Te Daría Mi Vida, Nada de Ti, Hoy te Dejé de Amar and Bésame en la Boca were some of the hits from this era. By 1996, she took us to her planet with a more mature sound incorporating dance and euro rhythms on what was her fourth studio album Planeta Paulina, the first one to be co-produced by Paulina herself. Siempre Tuya Desde la Raíz, Solo por Ti, Miedo and Enamorada were the singles released in order to promote this album. The Enamorada music video caused a bit of controversy, since it insinuates that her partner is cheating on her with another man, a topic which was rarely addressed at the time on tv or music in Latin America. A new era was coming for Paulina in the late 90's. A legal battle with her former record label EMI and a reunion with Timbiriche in 1998. And in 1999 she hosted in Spain the summer variety TV show Vive el Verano, for which she also sang the opening theme. The year was 2000, and a new record deal with Universal Music would make possible her fifth studio album titled Paulina. To this day, it's Paulina's most successful album ever, with over 3 million copies sold worldwide. Hit after hit, it managed to position seven singles on the popularity charts: Lo Haré por Ti, El Último Adiós, Y Yo Sigo Aquí, Yo No Soy Esa Mujer, Vive el Verano, ***i Dance and Tal Vez, Quizá. While she was readying her sixth studio album, her former record label couldn't move on with her departure and kept releasing compilation albums featuring her hits from the 90's, they went even as far as to release some English versions of her songs that she had recorded for what was supposed to be her first crossover album, that the label itself decided to scrap back then. Her real crossover album, Border Girl, was released in the summer of 2002. It peaked at #11 in the US Billboard 200 chart and it was certified Gold for over 500,000 copies. It included English versions of some of the tracks from the previous album, such as I'll Be Right Here (Y Yo Sigo Aquí) and Fire (**** Dance), but the most successful song was Don't Say Goodbye (also released in Spanish as Si Tú Te Vas). Don't Say Goodbye peaked at #41 on the Billboard Hot 100. Other singles were The One You Love (Todo Mi Amor), Casanova (Baila Casanova) and Libre. In 2002 she also toured with Enrique Iglesias. 2004, and she was unstoppable. Pau-Latina, her seventh studio album was released that year, and though it didn't get the same success on the charts, peaking at #102 on the Billboard 200, it peaked at #6 and #3 on the Latin Albums and Latin Pop Albums charts respectively, and it was certified 2x platinum by the RIAA. Te Quise Tanto, Algo Tienes, Dame Otro Tequila were the biggest singles, becoming instant classics that to this day are still played on the radio. To a lesser extent, Mía was also a moderate hit. In 2005 she collaborated with fellow Mexican singer Julieta Venegas and the Argentinian Coti on Nada Fue un Error, a massive radio hit. In 2006 she was still going strong with Ananda, her eighth studio album, which topped the Mexican chart as well as the US Latin charts, while peaking at #31 on the Billboard 200. Ni Una Sola Palabra would become one of her signature hits for the following years. Nada Puede Cambiarme and Ayúdame were other singles from the album. Nada Puede Cambiarme featured Slash, Guns N' Roses' guitarist, playing the guitar. It was in 2007 that she collaborated with the legendary singer from Spain Miguel Bosé, on a new version of his hit Nena. and if you thought her former label EMI had given up by now, well, it hadn't. In fact, after yet another compilation released in 2006, they released a new remix album in 2007. If you're still reading this, bear with me 'cause we're only on her ninth studio album, Gran City Pop, released in 2009. Peaking at #44, it closed the 00's era in pop music with hits such as Causa y Efecto, Ni Rosas Ni Juguetes and Algo de Ti. This would really be the end not only of a streak of success in Paulina's career, but the Latin music scene really changed after this. The following years, EDM took over, and the change didn't suit Paulina very well. Then, at some point along the way in the 2010's decade, reggaeton and urban genres took over, and the kind of pop music Paulina was known for has never gained back its position again, for now. Despite this, she still released Brava! in 2011, her tenth studio album. Me Gustas Tanto and Me Voy were the initial singles, but later she would re-release the album promoting it with the English hit Boys Will Be Boys. She had become the mom of a baby boy in 2010. In 2012 she joined the judge panel of he Mexican edition of The Voice And in 2013, she replaced Britney Spears on the third season of the US' The X Factor, joining Kelly Rowland, Demi Lovato and Simon Cowell. Since then, she's appeared on other TV competitions, and she wouldn't release her next album until 2018, titled Deseo, which included singles she had released between 2015 and 2016, plus new songs. She had her second baby in 2016. Although she went back to her pop roots after exploring a little bit with the urban sounds, as I said, the new music scene doesn't really have a space for classic pop music anymore, so she only saw a moderate success on radio. After this, in 2019, she parted ways with Universal Music after 20 years, after her contract ended. According to the reports, it was her decision to go by herself, probably after there were some issues with an unreleased video that she intended to put out and that still hasn't seen the light. Some stand-alone singles have come out in the past few years. Si Supieran, a diss track that talks about her exes getting together after she dumped them, was the reason for a lawsuit from her ex-husband and father of her first son. In what seemed like a comedy sketch, the judge and the lawyers had to go through the lyrics of the song and question Paulina about the true meaning behind the track. Another track she released independently was De Qué Sirve In 2020 she had plans to do a joint tour with no other than Alejandra Guzmán, her former love rival to whom she dedicated her first single, remember? They even recorded a duet together and filmed the videoclip, a cover from the 80's Ni Tú Ni Nadie, but the whole project was scrapped before it was even announced, supposedly because of Alejandra getting fed up with Paulina's diva attitudes, such as arriving late to the set of the music video lol A low quality clip leaked, however, teasing fans of both artists what could've been but never will. the tour would've been scrapped anyways due to the COVID-19 pandemic. So that's a summary of Paulina Rubio's career, who celebrated yesterday her 50th birthday. She's done a few live performances here and there, and she's teased new music, so we'll have to wait and see what she has in store. Happy birthday Paulina Rubio!! Related:

Mexican singer Danna Paola has premiered a new video for her latest single MÍA. Tired of drama and always "dying" for love, she decides to leave the men behind and instead goes to have fun with her girlfriends, between neon lights and roller skates, giving a modern twist to the classic fairy-tales such as Sleeping Beauty and Cinderella. The new single does not belong to any album yet, but it will most likely be included in a future release. Her sixth studio album came out this January, and she's ready for the new era already. Lately she's collaborated with other artists such as David Bisbal, Lasso and Morat, as well as the soundtrack of Disney's Raya and the Last Dragon movie. Earlier today she made a tv appearance to promote the new single, where they went down memory lane to look back at her career of more than 20 years. Related:

Kabah and JNS, Mexican pop bands from the 90's, released a music video for their Rainbow Mashup collaboration on Valentine's Day. The mashup is made out of two of their hits, JNS' Corazón Confidente (2001), which was released when the group was still called Jeans, and Kabah's La Calle de las Sirenas (1996). The two 90's icons were supposed to embark on a joint tour last year, but it was cancelled due to the COVID pandemic.

Mexican singer and actress Kika Edgar has covered a 90's classic in Latin Pop, Mi Historia Entre Tus Dedos. The song was originally performed by Italian singer Gianluca Grignani, titled La mia sotria tra le dita, in 1994. The song became a classic in Mexico and Latin America, but since he never released more singles, or if he did, they paled in comparison, he remained as a mysterious one hit wonder ever since, but the song is still played regularly on radio stations. If you're in for a moody, more alternative kind of pop, make sure to give it a watch Kika has made a career in television, movies and theater, but she's also released several albums ever since she competed in a singing reality show where celebrities helped normal people to fight for a dream. Earlier this year she revisited some of her hits and released new versions of them:
