  1. Kinda random but 2016 was such an iconic year Can u believe it was almost 7 years ago? My favorite 2016 songs I used to listen to all the time: Duhhh A classic in my books Don't laugh omg She ate with this one September 2016 I remember sh/t omg but I remember that I remembered it One of the best songs of all time Sometimes Against my will for the most part Such a bop What about u? @Blackout2006 the way I was your age in 2016
  2. On November 18, 2016, Britney Spears released the Slumber Party video featuring Tinashe, two days after the new version of the track was released on digital platforms. The music video was directed by Colin Tilley, a relatively new director that had already worked with people like Lil Wayne and Nicki Minaj. The video was shot in October, and both Britney and Tinashe posted about it on social media. Various pictures from on set were shared, revealing the collaboration which wasn't originally on the album's tracklist. In an interview for Extra with Mario Lopez, she talked about the video saying: "[...] we just did the video and it's kinda like a younger "Eyes Wide Shut" theme. So it's kind of a little risky, it's very ****, it's very moody, and it's, um, fun! It's fun, yeah." When asked about Tinashe on an interview for MTV, Britney said: “Tinashe is so sweet. I just always see my fans talking about her online, and it just made so much sense to collaborate on this song. She was amazing, and would love to find another way to work together in the future!” On this videoshoot was where Britney Spears met actor Sam Asghari, who played the love interest in the video, and who would later become her boyfriend (and now husband). According to Sam, he didn't have to audition, instead, he got hand-picked by Britney after someone that was working on the production who was close to him, sent his pictures to the casting director. He had already appeared on Fifth Harmony's Work from Home video earlier that year. The music video premiered on her YouTube channel. Originally, fans were happy because the video used a different track than that from the digital platforms. The version of the video didn't have Britney's high pitched vocals at the end of the song. However, the audio was later replaced to match the one from iTunes, Spotify, etc. but the original version can still be found in some websites. The music video was well received by fans and critics alike, comparing it to her 2002 Boys video. For a while it was trending on YouTube, even above Shakira's Chantaje which premiered the same day, but eventually lost momentum. It wasn't until May 2022, that the video finally reached 100M views. Slumber Party is Britney's last video to be released under her conservatorship, and to this day, is her latest overall (without counting Hold Me Closer videos where she doesn't appear); ever since its premiere, this has been the longest period of time without a new Britney video in her entire career (6 years and counting). Previously the longest gap between videos had been Someday (I Will Understand) - Gimme More, but Slumber Party already surpassed that record in 2019 .
  3. On September 28, 2016, Britney Spears was interviewed at The Jonathan Ross show, and she also performed Make Me..., the lead single off Glory. The show didn't air until October 1st, though. In the interview she talked about her love for rice, dating lizard people, admitted to farting onstage and also played some games, including singing Shake It Off after inhaling helium from a balloon. Most noteworthy, people who attended the filming of the episode revealed she also talked about **** use and the party scene in Vegas, but most importantly, that she allegedly talked about her conservatorship and the restrictions it has when it comes to recording her music. Such declarations were cut from the show when it aired on October 1st. In 2021, someone contacted Jonathan Ross about this subject, and he responded that the cut content most likely doesn't exist anymore since the tv network only keeps the edited shows.
  4. On August 28, 2016 the VMA's were held at Madison Square Garden in Manhattan. Rihanna received the Video Vanguard Award, and Beyoncé won 8 awards that night, overtaking Madonna's record of most moonmen with a total of 26. That year, also marked the return of Britney Spears to the VMA's stage since her last, heavily criticized performance in 2007. Britney performed the lead single off her ninth studio album Glory, Make Me... which features rapper G-Eazy. He joined her onstage to do his rap, and then the performance transitioned to Me, Myself and I, a song originally performed by G-Eazy and Bebe Rexha. They closed the number by doing the final part of Make Me...
  5. On August 26, 2016, Britney Spears released her ninth studio album Glory. The recording process started since 2014 and it took about two and a half years to complete. She recorded around 30 - 40 songs, according to some interviews she gave. Six months into the recording process, Britney felt dissatisfied with the results, so Karen Kwak was brought onto the record to work as the executive producer. She picked the producers and writers inspired by the sounds of her previous albums, such as Blackout and In the Zone. Karen said: " Pretty Girls wasn't original. Britney wanted to do things that were fresh and unexpected this time. There was never a moment where she was given a song, and anybody said, 'This is a hit. You have to sing it'. Britney pursued the songs she wanted to do for herself. She came up with concepts and melodies. It's her baby. It's like being an athlete. If you're doing it that much, you're getting yourself into shape. She was always ready to work during the album sessions, and it was very important to her to be done by a certain time so she could pick up her boys from school." The producers that worked on the album were BloodPop, Burns, Cashmere Cat, DJ Mustard, Jason Evigan, Oak Felder, Andrew Goldstein, Oscar Görres, Ian Kirkpatrick, Mattman & Robin, Nick Monson, Alex Nice, Robopop, Lance Eric Shipp, Twice as Nice, and Tramaine Winfrey with songwriting credits by Julia Michaels, Justin Tranter, Nick Monson, among others including Britney herself. Originally it included 18 tracks on the deluxe version, with the 18th track, Mood Ring, being released exclusively in Japan. The official singles off the album were Make Me... and Slumber Party. Before the release of the record, three promotional singles were revealed: Pretty Girls, Clumsy and Do You Wanna Come Over? In 2020, Mood Ring was released as a promotional single as well, after it was made available worldwide. The album was sold in some Mexico City stores ahead of the scheduled date, on August 20, leaking into the internet that very same day. Nonetheless, the album debuted at #3 on the US BBH100 after it managed to move 111K equivalent units during its first week. However, to this day it's the only album of hers that hasn't reached the gold status for sales in the US. In 2017, an exclusive version of the album was released in Japan and other countries to promote her Asian tour Britney: Live in Concert. It contained two discs, one with the 18 Glory tracks, and the second one with the studio version of the songs from the setlist of the show, with the exception of Me Against the Music which appears as the Dragon Man Mix. And in 2020, after Glory hit the #1 spot on the iTunes Pop Chart, Britney released a new cover for the album, which was made available on all digital platforms. Later on that same year, a final reissue of Glory was released on vinyl and digitally, with a new cover and including all the tracks plus two previously unreleased songs: Swimming in the Stars and Matches (with the Backstreet Boys). Additionally, it included some Mood Ring remixes. You can stream the full album below or on Spotify here
  6. On August 5, 2016, Britney Spears released the Make Me... music video featuring G-Eazy. After two months since we knew that she had started shooting a music video for the lead single off Glory, and after some clips had started leaking, we were finally able to enjoy the video, except that, well, it turned out to be something completely different than the David LaChapelle-directed music video that we were expecting to see. This new video was shot on July 16 and it was directed by Randee St. Nicholas. In late July, Britney talked about it: "The video that I just shot is me and all my girls. We're making guys audition for us. The whole theme is us basically playing with them. It's really kind of fun and it's interesting". At the moment we weren't sure if they had re-shot the video altogether or if it was just a new part of the plot we hadn't heard before. In all fairness, @Blackout ***** tried to warn us In September, Larry Rudolph explained the situation in an interview for Los Angeles Times: Exactly the explanation the Britney Army wanted to hear The video got a different version released in September through the mobile app Britney Spears: American Dream. A rough cut from the original LaChapelle video leaked in 2019. What is your favorite part of the video? What are your memories from when it premiered?
  7. On March 15, 2016, Britney Spears and brother Bryan appeared at the Grand Ole Opry to introduce Jamie Lynn Spears who was performing that night. Should the title read "This Day in Country"?
  8. On February 13, 2016, Britney Spears started the 12th leg of her Las Vegas residency Britney: Piece of Me. The revamped version of the show, that started in 2013 and was originally set to last for two years, came as a result of a two-years extension that was announced in late 2015. New outfits and props were added to the show, which kept most of the base setlist, though some of the songs were rearranged in the order they were performed, and some other songs such as Lucky and Perfume were completely removed in order to incorporate new tracks. This new format would be kept throughout the year and until the end of the residency in 2017, including the Asian Tour that summer, though some songs would be added and removed along the way. Among the changes were the inclusion of Gimme More's second verse, which was originally shortened as it was performed on a medley with Break the Ice and Piece of Me (which were both moved to the first act replacing 3). Britney also brought back her cover of I Love Rock 'N' Roll, which she hadn't performed live since her Dream Within a Dream Tour ended in 2002. For this performance they made use of the giant electric guitar on which she performed Burning Up during the first dates of her Femme Fatale Tour in 2011. A dance medley composed of three Missy Elliot songs was also added to the setlist after Pretty Girls. The songs were Work It, Get Your Freak On and WTF (Where They From) and the medley would be performed on the promo performances that she did later in the year at different radio festivals. A new segment that was added after Circus, were three other songs she brought back from her old catalogue: If U Seek Amy, Breathe on Me and Touch of My Hand. Looking better and happier than ever, this started what would be considered by the fans the second prime of Britney Spears that would extend throughout 2016.
  9. On November 16, 2016, Britney Spears "released" Slumber Party featuring Tinashe as the second single off her ninth studio album Glory. The song wasn't actually released as an individual single, instead they just replaced the original Slumber Party track (sans Tinashe) on all the digital platforms with the new version. We did eventually get a Remix EP in December though, but strangely, it didn't include the standard track, only the remixes. It was written by Mattias Larsson, Robin Fredriksson, Julia Michaels and Justin Tranter, and produced by Mattman & Robin. The reggae and R&B influenced song talks about slumber parties and teenage games such as "seven minutes in heaven" as double entendre of much more adult topics It was sent to radio on November 22. The song peaked at #86 on the Billboard Hot 100, however it went #1 on the US Dance Club Songs chart and #27 on the Mainstream Top 40. It was in October of that year when Tinashe hinted to be recording vocals for a "legendary collaboration" on her social media. A few days later, it was confirmed through Britney Spears' account, that they were already filming the music video for Slumber Party, with the quote "Neighbors say we're causing a commotion..." The music video was released on November 18, so come back in two days for the celebration of that :P The first live performance of the song, was actually the same day it came out, on November 16. Britney Spears added Slumber Party to her Piece of Me show in Las Vegas. Tinashe performed the song with Britney for the first time at the KISS-FM Jingle Ball on December 2nd Then it was performed again at the Triple Ho and B96 Jingle Bash festivals. Tinashe later joined Britney at her Piece of Me show in Vegas on January 25, 2017. The song was also performed at the 2017 Britney: Live in Concert Asian Tour and the Piece of Me Tour in 2018, though it was removed from the setlist for the final dates on the latter.
  10. On September 1st, 2016, Britney Spears appeared on the Today show to promote her album Glory. She performed the lead single Make Me... and the second single Do You Wanna Come Over?
  11. I would like to know what’s your opinion about 2016. What could have happened to her that she regained her passion back then? I remember the fanbase discussing about her being single again possibly made the change, but knowing the facts now I just don’t know… ‘Cause in the light of recent informations we have all agreed why she had looked stiff and passionless for a whole lot of time. Why 2016 is an exception then? Could it be that she was finished with an album she actually liked and contributed to? And that’s it? Or any other reasons? Please share what you think!
  12. On May 18, 2016, Britney Spears: American Dream mobile app was released worldwide for iOS and Android. It had been previously released since May 13 in various countries for testing purposes, and it was developed by Glu Mobile, the creators of Kim Kardashian: Hollywood. In the role-play game, the goal was to achieve fame and superstardom until becoming an A-list artist, guided by Britney Spears' character who appears several times throughout the journey. The game features voice acting by Britney Spears. It features Oops!... I Did It Again, as well as several instrumental versions of songs such as ...Baby One More Time, Work *****, (You Drive Me) Crazy, Toxic, Sometimes, Lucky, Piece of Me and Womanizer. The game has over 1M downloads on Google Play, however it's received mixed reviews from the users. In September 2016, a new "exclusive, special version" of her video Make Me... ft.
