  • Pussycat Dolls on new album: strong, anthemic and very dance-driven

The *****cat Dolls are hard at work on a new album.

The group just released a fiery, choreo-heavy music video for their comeback single, "React," and have more in store.

“Our music has always been very diverse,” PCD front woman Nicole Scherzinger tells People.

“So we’ve just been playing around with a lot of songs that we feel are very strong and anthemic and very dance-driven because we are typically known as a dance group. We’re just kind of taking one thing at a time.”

She added, “We knew that we were excited for the comeback and to get the single together and the video and now we’re focusing on the tour. So with the music, we’re just seeing where that takes us.”

It's worth mentioning Variety confirmed an album is in the works. Us Weekly previously said they'd release an EP.

The Dolls revealed they'll likely perform new material on tour.

A lot of fans complained Scherzinger's voice overwhelmingly dominated "React." Hopefully their new tunes feature the rest of the girls equally.

Are you excited for new PCD music?

React is a total BOP and has been on repeat ever since the demo leaked...We all love some good PCD don't we?!

Let's just hope Nicole is less present on the other songs as she is on React.

Not sure why Nicole's solo career never really took off. Had all the elements for success. Anyway, glad to see PCD back together. React is a bop. Love the video as well. :bop:

Their singles on PCD was good but Doll Domination sucked as an album.  Hopefully they work with fresh talent.  I bet we will get a Will.I.Am. collab

I feel like Nicole lacks a playfulness that she needs to be a pop star - she comes off as cold.  Maybe if she was more in classical singing or a different genre she would have fit in more but as a popstar she just is not likable.  She looks mean. Lol

I find it weird that the PCD material is basically all Nicole yet her solo material is never really as good nor is anyone interested in her unless the other girls are involved (or should I say dancing behind her). It’s weird it’s not like they are an active part in any of the songs.

On the plus side I love React although I’d like to see the other girls get parts to keep it fresh. They are a lot more well known since even Doll Domination. Ashley and Kimberley are pretty well known in the UK. It would be nice to see them more present in the songs. I don’t care for people who say Nicole is part of the formula which has worked for so long. This is 2020 they need to stop living in her shadow I mean is anyone really here for Nicole on her own.....

Yesss. Someone was telling me they wish their new song was more than some shallow dance bop, and I immediately said, 'are we looking for more than a dance bop from The Pussycat Dolls in 2020?' :tiffanynod:

If it's any consolation, I interviewed her a few years ago and she was lovely.

    THISSSSSS
Everyone were talking about this for years, it's already boring. Is their management blind and deaf, or something? :nochillbrit:
But I'm not hating, just curious about the other songs. It would be much more interesting to hear other girls too, not Nicole only.

Maybe because pop music trends are created mostly by teenagers, who can't identify with Nicole in any way. Like they can with Billy Eilish or Taylor Swift. Or like they could fall in love with Britney, when she was young, beautiful and sweet. Nicole makes an impression of distanced person, if you know what I mean. Of course she's got it all, she's talented and beautiful too, but, let's say, she's kind of unreachable for the teenagers. Maybe she and her management targeted wrong her potential audience, maybe she should find her niche. She kept on recording basic songs, nothing distinctive.
And the PCD's songs are very dance-driven and girly. I think people love their videos, full of smashing choreography.

React was some sort of breathe pop industry was looking for since a long time ago. It's the first time in years I feel like I'm watching a classical good pop music video.

Good, but we need the other girls to sing a few lines too! :lessons:

LOVE the fact that they are back! As a fellow dancer, I always appreciated their fierceness and stage presence. React is awesome, video even better. But I surely hope the other girls will be more vocally present. Heard all of their solo works and there is a lot of potential. Dolls, you can dominate 2020 😉

I hope not all of the songs are as autotuned as the lead single. Seriously, Nicole can sing, what's the problem?  :nydisgust:

You're right, but I think her career never took off simply because she's not likeable as a person. She's great (or one of the best, honestly) at what she does but she seems to have zero empathy for others. We've been taught for years, consciously or unconsciously, to criticize women who are aggressively talented and successful, but in this case I truly believe that she's a real diva. Her strained relationship with the PCD girls proves that to me: they all are nice girls, there's no other way to explain why all five of them cannot stand her or had such difficult times with her. Now they are more mature and have come back to keep working on PCD together (minus Melody...) with another attitude and doing it for the money and because they still love what they do of course, but they are definitely playing the game. Nicole is NOT their friend.

I like reading this, because I feel "anthemic and dance driven" are things the pop industry is really missing these days. React is really a bop.

I didn't know their relationship was strained. What happened between them? Too much Nicole and not the other dolls? :ineedthetruth:

Same!! Very excited for this album for that reason. :OMGney: Hoping Gaga does something similar too.

Well there's a reason why they broke up, and I read that there is/was a contract in which they truly are back-up dancers and she's treated like a solo artist basically, with privileges and all. And now look at their interviews and general interactions (or lack of), it's clear they are not friends. Maybe they don't hate each other because they're all grown women now, but they're definitely not friends.

This is fan fiction. Kimberly explicitly made it clear why everyone quit. The label (Interscope) and management expressed that the Dolls were replaceable and sucked the positivity out of the gig. All the Dolls have maintained that Nicole is always professional. Nicole was a hired employee like the rest of them. The only advantage she had was that Interscope thought she was less replaceable as she was the one making the music.

And the other Dolls are dancers. PCD were a burlesque dance troupe first. Nicole and Melody were recruited when Interscope wanted to make the brand into a pop act.

Anyway, I do agree that Nicole had a difficult time breaking out solo because can't identify with her. She's too "ethnic" and she doesn't have a bubbly, extroverted personality. She's introverted and comes off as cold or awkward.

I used to think the same thing too, but have changed my mind in the past few years because of shuffle play on Spotify. Doll Domination has a lot of gems like Who's Gonna Love You, Elevator and Hush Hush.

I disagree. Nicole's first solo album, Killer Love, sounds like a third Pussycat Dolls album. Don't Hold Your Breath, Right There, Poison and Wet could gave easily been PCD singles in the RedOne and Stargate era.

I think it's just perception. People cant identify with Nicole so her music is just more well-received under the "Pussycat Dolls" banner.
