  1. Chris Rock has revealed that he was offered an opportunity to host the Oscarsonce again for 2023. However, the 57-year-old comedian turned The Academy down, and revealed just why he passed on getting back on the stage as host for a third time. According to the Arizona Republic paper, Chris alluded to the offer during his stand-up set in Phoenix over the weekend, and he likened it to returning to the scene of a crime. He made a reference to the OJ Simpsonmurder trial, saying that it would be like asking the late Nicole Brown Simpson“to go back to the restaurant.” Chris also mentioned being offered the chance to appear in a Super Bowl commercial but also turned down that request. Elsewhere in his stand-up routine, Chris briefly addressed the slap from Will Smith. He acknowledged the slap from Will did hurt and that it wasn’t lost on him that the actor once portrayed Muhammad Ali in a biopic. “He’s bigger than me,” Chris said. “The state of Nevada would not sanction a fight between me and Will Smith.”
  2. Willow Smith is breaking her silence. In a new interview with Billboard, the 21-year-old "Wait a Minute" musician reflected on her father Will Smith's incident at the 2022 Oscars, where he walked onstage and slapped comedian Chris Rock. Willow told the outlet that the situation “rock me as much as my own internal demons.” “I see my whole family as being human, and I love and accept them for all their humanness,” she explained. “Because of the position that we’re in, our humanness sometimes isn’t accepted, and we’re expected to act in a way that isn’t conducive to a healthy human life and isn’t conducive to being honest.” Her comment marks the first time she's directly addressed the slap, though she seemingly reacted on social media shortly after it happened. Will issued his first statement about the situation a week ago in a video posted to YouTube. In his apology, he told his fans: “I hate when I let people down. So it hurts, it hurts me psychologically and emotionally to know I didn’t live up to people’s image and impression of me."
  3. Will Smith shared a video in which he again apologized to Chris Rock for slapping the comedian at the 2022 Oscars. “This is probably irreparable.” Smith clarified that his wife, Jada Pinkett Smith, did not tell him to “do something” after she rolled her eyes upon hearing the alopecia joke that sparked the confrontation. He also said that letting people down, including his wife, has always been his worst nightmare. “Disappointing people is my central trauma. I hate when I let people down, so it hurts psychologically and emotionally to know that I didn’t live up to people’s image and impression of me,” he explained. “The work I’m trying to do is I am deeply remorseful, and I’m trying to be remorseful without being ashamed of myself.”
  4. Update 2: He's banned for 10 years. Update: Will apologized. This was very uncomfortable to watch...
  5. In 2009, Chris Rock made a documentary about the topic of hair in the black community... and 13 years later he got smacked in public for making a joke about it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1m-4qxz08So So much has been said and can still be said about what happened at the Oscars, but at least he's conscious about the topic and took the time and effort and money to analyse it, all out of love for his daughter. I'm not defending anyone here, I'm just shedding light on this other aspect of the whole situation, in case it wasn't mentioned before. Also, you can tell that it's an important topic for him. It was important for his daughter, and so it became important for him. So he's been analysing it since then... I like that. I like people who take something seriously enough to spend time to learn about it. But like with all learning processes, that doesn't mean that we won't make mistakes along the way... To me, it's the good intention what counts.
  6. I see someone snatching that Oscar for best original song. Check out the trailer. Will you be watching?
  7. Lately I've been thinking about some of my favorite movies featuring great performances from Black pop stars. Obviously the late, great Whitney Houston comes to mind right away. The Bodyguard, Waiting to Exhale, The Preacher's Wife. Whitney wowed us as a leading lady in The Bodyguard and her performance broke barriers at the time. Even though she faced criticism from film critics, it's safe to say some of her movies have undoubtedly stood the test of time. Mariah has been cast in some very impressive dramatic roles in Lee Daniels films Precious and The Butler. Justice For Glitter! Beyonce in Dreamgirls and The Lion King. Janet Jackson (Miss Jackson if you're nasty) in Poetic Justice Diana Ross, Janelle Monae, Aaliyah, Will Smith. The list goes on... I'm curious what some of your fave crossover performances are. Let's discuss!
