Valentine's Day Gets Wild With Back-To-Back Dyllan White Premieres

Dyllan White is an up-and-coming independent pop singer with a frenetic energy that's as contagious as it is savage. He's a part of BreatheHeavy's budding Creators program, an initiative to highlight artists on the rise. If you are interested in joining, please email Jordan[@]breatheheavy.com.

In case you missed it... Dyllan and I had a video interview chat about how the Internet can be a wondrous yet terrible place some times in regards to releasing your art. Keyboard crusaders have a lot to say now don't they? :inbed:

Side-stepping the haters is an important piece of the puzzle (and a sign you're on the right track), but it's not all about the meanies. Fans of indie pop can feast their eyes on two delicious Dyllan tunes: "shhh I’m Hot!" and "Get Bk @ That." Whether you're with someone on Valentine's Day or not, feel yourself to these. :werk:

Check them out / read our Q&A together below, then let us know what you think of the songs/videos in the comments.

    Get Bk @ That:

"We all have a crazy mother ****er inside ourselves," he said.

"I made a joke about selling an ex’s pet to get back at them and all my friends were dyin with laughter," Dyllan continued of why he wrote "Get Bk @ That." "I was like, yeah that’s goin in a song, so I built a song around that idea."

He added: "I wrote half the song while I was in the studio.. and that was the line that really got me in my writing zone... This song was sooo much fun to write and record. To really tap into my dark sense of humor."

    ****! I’m Hot!:

"I was in need of a new confidence track, so I made one. Just something fun to listen to and to sing along to. Get yourself hyped," he said of "****! I'm Hot!"

"I want people to listen to this when they need that boost of confidence. Listen to this song when you're getting ready for something that you may be nervous / insecure about. Listen to it when you’re getting ready for a night out, doing cardio in the gym, prepping for a first date or an interview."

"This song is to motivate you and give you that last push of 'I CAN DO THIS!'"

this is just plain awful and it's messed up that you are letting people pay to promote their music on here, especially when it's nowhere near listenable

In my opinion, it’s incredibly brave for independent artists to release their music, because often times the Internet is a volatile place. Imagine being passionate about something, taking the leap of faith to lean into your craft, work hard, and share it only to have people criticize you. That’s why Creators exists. Thank you for your two cents anyhow.

This was just so basic, sounded like demos targeting the lowest common denominator of gay culture: *** and vanity... I don't wanna be mean or dismissive of the guy but this was just bad :hideous: seriously, is he promoting music? a message? or just his "hot" body? :disappointed:

Jordan, I understand what you're saying and it's a beautiful sentiment, honestly. But then what I see and hear from this "artist" is a completely different thing: I don't see a person wanting to share their "craft", I see someone desperately seeking attention and not really sharing something of value or unique to that person. I can find this same thing in various formats on PornHub or Grindr, or in any drag queen's music videos.
Whatever the message is, if you want people to pay attention and respond to it, it HAS to be these three things in some way or another:
    1) Genuine. > Don't act like it; be it.
    2) Original/different/particular. > And so: needed, wanted, valuable.
    3) Relatable. > Then we get it.
Is the internet a volatile place? Yes. But exactly because of things like this.

First of all how dare we. :lessons:

The comments i'm reading are so unfair. Lady Gaga also did everything to be famous and literally everything that she did during the Fame and Fame Monster era could also be seen as "wanting attention" and "trying too hard" and doing it for "shock value". She was desperate to be famous and didn't care about looking desperate or for people to know she's desperate because that was her MO from the very start. Xtina's Dirrty also didn't have any message. It was just a hoe anthem. The video is super sl-tty and although i love and stan the song - there isn't a message in that song too. And yet both Gaga's early era and Xtina's Dirrty are seen as iconic but an independent artist gets criticized for doing the exact same thing? It's so easy to criticize them because they're "irrelevant" and are nobodies but atleast they're out there being brave. They're not stupid. They know they're gonna get criticized but they're doing it anyway. And who are we - Britney stans - to judge someone for using their body and selling ***? Really? When our fave literally built an empire off of her lolita image? How dare we attack someone for selling ***. How. Dare. We. How is it that Xtina can be sl-tty and that empowering to y'all and this irrelevant Dyllan White can't? How can y'all pick which one is empowering and which one is not? I think both are empowering and inspiring. I'll pick Xtina over Dyllan White any day but i will never say Xtina's is empowering for being sl-tty and Dyllan White isn't. And y'all live for Lana Del Rey now but wasn't she seen as the EXACT SAME WAY as Gaga and Xtina and now this Dyllan White, before Lana Del Rey became the Grammy nominated artist that she is? As inauthentic, a try hard, and a fake? And yet, as Taylor Swift smartly put it, "she just kept on making music" and didn't care what everyone else said and now she's influenced an entire generation of alternative pop artists. So I say to you, Dyllan White - i'm not living for your music boo but go on and continue doing what you love. As someone who works in the arts and media industry, i respect anyone who is brave enough to put their heart and soul out there to be criticized. Hell it even took me years before I made my Instagram public. But we all have our own battles. And I say to you, just keep doing it. :likethat:

P.S. do i think ...Baby One More Time would be as successful and iconic as it was if it weren't for the scandalous (at the time) music video? Just based off the amazing and catchy pop song that it is? Answer is NO. It'll be taking away 50% off of its greatness. Probably Britney would be the runner up on the 2000s Pop Girls and Xtina would be the main girl because we all know X's first, second, third, fourth, fifth, and sixth singles outpeaked Sometimes.
