Why do people think The Tortured Poets Department is a bad album?

My problem was the release date.. this album is screaming winter cozy vibes, and I’m finally getting what Swifties have been telling us all this time. :snarky_katy_merry_go_round_smile_proud_spinning:

It’s because she didn’t evolve her sound. It’s the same sound as Midnights, just without the bangers. It’s just very slow and very monotone for me and it was boring. I liked a couple of songs, but I barely listen to them. She either needs to try harder to evolve her sound with Jack or find new people to work with.

And she sounds dead. No emotion or passion in most of the songs.

Because they think if an album doesn’t have “bangers” it’s bad.
It wasn’t meant to be an album full of bangers. It was always supposed to be a slower moody album. If people actually sat down and listened to the words and storytelling they’d think differently.

It is too long

Melodically, musically and in terms of sonic landscape, it is flat 90% of the time. It truly sounds like elevator music.

Lyrics are mediocre in the majority of the songs. There are some nice ideas crafted, but then the next lines are childish and absurd.

Exactly what made Folklore (and Evermore)so good imo was how far away she got from her boring habit of throwing easter eggs and how widely human the stories in those albums were. This album is like a TMZ episode wirh elevator music on the back, with a whiny teen taking the lead.

I have never made it all the way through a listen of the album, and I struggle to even remember what any song sounds like.  I can’t even recall anything about “Fortnights.”

well maybe she shouldn't have made 50 variants and seemingly try to take #1 for herself everywhere

She would’ve been number 1 by a wide margin even without the variants.

I think because it’s a retread of her usual sound, she continues to work with Jack Antonoff but I get it as they’re close friends. I don’t think the length helped either. A lot of the more interesting songs were on The Anthology and I wish it had been given a separate release and more of a chance to shine.

However there’s still some good songs on this album, although I’m not sure if I prefer it over Midnights.

Because it is? :cackling_cackle_lol_what_unbelievable_disbelief_glasses_meme:

Childish and terrible lyrics, lana del rey production copycat, every song sounds the same, million editions with the same stuff, Taylor's behavior is like it's something amazing and meanwhile she's doing it while GTA and eating 7 bars of chocolate.. :cackling_cackle_lol_what_unbelievable_disbelief_glasses_meme: Much of this is Taylor's own fault. She should have released standard, deluxe, super deluxe and closed this shiit equal to the value of Witness & Artflop and fastly moved on and forget. Thank you TayME for these cruel 2 years :messbye_britney_pink_leave_walking_running_bye_goodbye_away:

My problem with Taylor Swift is her greediness. She is a 34 year old woman who still sings about break ups, how men are pure evil, how everyone did her wrong while she's a kind fairy who fell from the fairy world onto this evil planet.

I wouldn't have a problem with this if it were true, but the problem is its all a lie. It's a marketing persona she keeps putting out and as an artist, I can't respect her. While people like Adele, Gaga, Ariana, even Britney when she was still active, grew with their music and kept evolving it, Taylor insists catering to 14 year old girls and 40 year old lonely women.

This leads me to believe she has only one thing on her mind - MONEY.

And even this, again, wouldn't be a problem for me if she was honest with it. Instead, she employs another marketing tactic where she convinces her fans she deeply *cares* about them. She actively earns on her fans' misery. Whether its a 14 year old girl who is confused and thinks the world is against her, or a 40 year old woman who never emotionally matured and still thinks the world is against her, TS is cashing in on that, while ACTIVELY convincing them she loves them and does not care about their money but their feelings.

For all these reasons I find her to be a business woman, not an artist. And a very greedy business woman ready to exploit her miserable fans at all cost and take their money. While acting like an angel the whole time.

I strongly dislike fake people, and she is very fake. I dislike Beyonce for the same reason.

And finally to answer your question, that album is a culmination of everything I said. 0 musical evolution and an album perfectly tailored to continue her legacy of earning off her fans who are eating chocolate and crying how the world is evil and unfair towards them. And all this delivered to them on a silver platter BY AN ACTUAL BILLIONAIRE.

You can't do the same 80's mixtape over and over again...
I think her writing is above bar consistantly, but it's just, the same thing.
All she did was changing to difficult vocabulary, yet the story telling is basically the same after Evermore.

So some of these responses are personal against TS and nothing to do with the actual music lol and everyone says “she hasn’t evolved” that’s the problem with the pressures women in the music industry face they gotta constantly shift into something new and exciting. This album is folklore/evermore/midnights on ********* - her lyrics and vocals continue to get better. TTPD is incredible.

lol at $t3r0id$ being a dirty word
