Is this Argentinian pop-star inspired by Britney?

As I was scrolling through IG, I came across a video of a foreign pop-star named Emilia.

However, upon first impression, what stood out to me most was her wardrobe, & how similar it felt to Britney’s crystal encrusted ensemble from the 2000 VMA’s.

After watching the short clip, I felt compelled to look her up just to learn more about her as an artist. Interestingly enough, I stumbled upon a few other costumes, which also seemed very reminiscent of Britney’s Y2K days, in my opinion.

Here are three side-by-side comparisons:

I’m always overjoyed to see artists from around the globe seemingly reference a pop music legend — & add their own flair. Although, this is all coming from my own (personal) observation, but I’m still curious to know your thoughts.

Do you see Britney’s influence?

I'm Argentinian although I don't live there anymore. I don't like Emilia's music very much but yes, I think she was inspired by Britney. Britney is so iconic that it's almost impossible for a current pop star not to be inspired by her.

I didn’t know you were from Argentina, that’s a really cool detail! Btw, I gave her songs a listen a few minutes ago, but it’s like a “synthetic” aesthetic, & not quite friendly to my ears, although her outfits are very cute.

Yes, I'm from Argentina but I've been living in the US for years. I don't like her music either but I agree, her outfits are great and she's so beautiful.

I'm from Argentina, too - and unlike our mate here I absolutely adore Emilia and her music.

I think she isn't exactly inspired by Britney exclusively, but Emilia's whole brand is the 2000's pop culture and aesthetic.

She's grabbed inspiration from all the girls from that era: Britney, Xtina, Paris, Lindsay, Hilary Duff, you name it.

But it's hard to deny there is definitely some influence since Britney IS the 2000's.

Argentinian here. Her album ".mp3" is entirely inspired by the y2k aesthetic and since she's a female and young and skinny, of course she reminds us of britney. I don't think I've seen her say shes one of her inspirations, but i'm sure at least for her team, britney is the main inspo when it comes to fashion.  The y2k aesthetic here hit really hard and a lof of popstars and main influencers have been channeling their britney with outfits and costumes.

I can see that! She certainly has some similar vibes to Britney, but as you mentioned her entire wardrobe represents Y2K, so it makes sense!

Wow, those are great examples, Argentinian pop-stars evidently love her too.

Anyway, her style is really charming to me, perhaps bc it’s reminiscent of Britney, which clearly inspired this topic.

Saludos a Argentina! 🫶🏻

I don’t think it’s necessarily copycat, but whoever designed the costumes, seemingly did it with Britney in mind, imo.

Amazing how Britney echos in popstars to this day. In Brazil, several are inspired by it to this day. And all those who were mentioned in the topic have already talked about Britney being an inspiration.

Every time someone mentions Emilia, this meme always comes to mind :gloria_falling_stairs_trip:

spacer.png

Context: she was asked about the political situation of Argentina and Javier Milei (Donald Trump alike) and she just looked at her manager, evading the question and they said she doesn’t talk about politics.

She got so much hatred for being cold feet and it got established she’s just a puppet, a product because other fellow artists have been very open about the topic, specially Lali… Argentina pop princess. :urite_wendy_williams_red_yes_earrings_nod_proud_wow_impressed:

What's wrong with her not wanting to talk about politics? She's an artist, not a politician.

Besides, I don't live in Argentina anymore but I think the current president is doing a great job. Socialism ruined the country, you wanted more of the same? :sickofu_britney_blinking_umm_wtf_confused_annoyed:

And Javier is making it worse. It’s a very sensitive subject and that’s your opinion because like you said, you don’t live in Argentina anymore. So I guess we’ll have to agree to disagree. :plzexplain_britney_karaoke_carpool_confused_oh_okay_hmm_nod_eyebrows_raised:
