On November 9, 2004, Britney released her first greatest hits album, Greatest Hits: My Prerogative in the USA. 🇺🇸 

Released in the midst of Spears' hiatus, Greatest Hits: My Prerogative included three new tracks–a cover of Bobby Brown's "My Prerogative", "Do Somethin'", and "I've Just Begun (Having My Fun)", which was previously released as a bonus digital download on the Walmart exclusive edition of In the Zone (2003). The album was released in two different editions–standard and limited, with the latter containing a bonus disc with remixes. An accompanying video of the same title, featuring 20 of Spears' music videos, was simultaneously released.

Greatest Hits: My Prerogative received mixed to favorable reviews from music critics, some of whom felt that it was an accurate portrayal of Spears as the defining figure of American pop culture, while others stated that she did not have enough material for a greatest hits album and also deemed it premature. A commercial success, it debuted at number four on the US Billboard 200, with first-week sales of 255,000 copies, but became Spears' first album not to reach the summit. It was certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) and has sold over five million copies worldwide.

Greatest Hits: My Prerogative received little to no promotion as Spears injured her knee in June 2004 and was left unable to perform, but produced two singles. The title track was released as the lead single and peaked within the top ten in most international countries, but failed to enter the US Billboard Hot 100, instead peaking atop the US Bubbling Under Hot 100. "Do Somethin'" was released as the second and final single from the album, and peaked at number 100 on the US Billboard Hot 100 despite not being released in the US, while reaching the top ten in 11 countries.

Wow!! 20 years!! The aluminum shiny version of the album and the dvd were amazing! Plus whoever did the collages and dvd menu seemed like real fans and at the time it was really cool!!
 

though I remember there was a theory back then that the hot album photo with the black fur itself was a merge of two different photos and not “real”.   … lawd we have been subject to conspiracy theories for 20+ years being a Britney fan!! I don’t think with that one though we ever got proof one way or another. Still a slay either way!!

Yes, the packaging was so beautiful and shiny, I love it so much. 

I also have so many fond memories exploring every nook and cranny of the DVD trying to find all the Easter eggs and behind the scenes in all the videos, so much fun!

I remember when I bought GH:MP, it was the limited edition version with the reflective packaging. I got it during the holidays (2004) with my Xmas money 🥺

Honestly, kudos to whoever was behind the design, because it’s excellent, & one of my favorites from her entire collection.

I still have the album, & both CD’s that came with it are in mint condition, but with streaming services now, it really isn't necessary to use the physical copy.

However, I will always cherish it, because it was Britney at her greatest peak, & it carries massive nostalgia for me. ♥️

I love this album, Do Somethin' and I've Just Begun (Having My Fun) are two of her best songs in my opinion

I remember the very day that this was released, as I was sitting a science exam in high school and once it was done, I ran over to the nearest mall in the hope I'd see it on the shelf along with the DVD - and I saw both. I miss the days where music gave me that feeling, spotting the latest finds in stores, or a surprise release you never knew about - especially CD singles. Despite the circumstances around her having to proceed to her first greatest hits, I think this was such a fun release and I hope they do a good job of remastering her videos in the future and digging through old footage to give us more behind the scenes good stuff. 

After this, the B in the Mix and further greatest hits compilations were a little lackluster I felt, but I still do want that Singles Boxset! Reminds me of the MJ singles Dualdisc boxset they did. 

Anyway, Happy Anniversary to GH:MP!

Yes absolutely agree with you on this. You can really tell they actually put thought and effort into this project. Yesterday’s anniversary inspired me to look at my physical copy yesterday. I too still have my original deluxe edition with the bonus remix CD. It makes me miss the days of physical media.

The Chris Cox Megamix is one of the best things that happened to us as Britney Spears fans 

The same is true for this Greatest Hits album in general. For me, it kind of signsposts the end of "Britney Spears." Everything that came after was different.
