Actress Maggie Smith passes away

The actress Maggie Smith, known for playing Professor Minerva McGonagall in the Harry Potter saga, passed away this Friday morning, the 27th. She was 89 years old. The information was confirmed on social media by Toby Stephens and Chris Larkin, the artist's children: “It is with great sadness that we inform you of the death of Maggie Smith. She died peacefully, in hospital, on Friday morning (27). An intensely private person, he was with his family and friends until the end. She leaves two children and five beloved grandchildren who are devastated by the enormous loss of their extraordinary mother and grandmother,” the statement said.

Born in Es-s**, England, in 1934, the artist gained great notoriety in the 1950s, when she debuted on the stage at the Oxford Playhouse. She consolidated her theater career in England before starting in cinema in 1960, winning the Oscar for Best Actress in 1969 for “The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie”. Other significant works by the veteran include “Sister Act” (1992), “Downtown Abbey” (2010) and “The Lady in the Van” (2015).  During his career, he won two Oscars, four Emmys, three Golden Globes, a Tony and seven Baftas.
