I think he was maybe referring to her vocals? But yeah the song is pure POP excellence. The best single of the Y2K pop explosion IMO and well deserved song of the summer 1999.

No, but it's a great song, my favorite Christina song to be honest (I love "Beautiful" and "Pero Me Acuerdo de Ti" too). I miss the 90's/early 2000's music, it was really great.

R&B has been around since the 1940s, so since the late 1980s it has been called contemporary R&B 

This includes Michael, Whitney, Janet, Mariah, TLC, Erykah Badu, Lauryn Hill, etc.
