Terrible timing for the MTV Video Vanguard Award tbh. Britney had two #1 hits (Hold it against me - S&M) , one #3 (Till the world ends) and one #7 (I wanna go) by the time she got her award 

 

Katy is struggling to survive this year so I'm pretty certain her label paid for this award to push the album sales

I think Gaga deserved it first, she definitely is an impactful artist in both music and videos

Very awkward timing considering her new era is a total disaster and major flop. 
 

I’m sure when they planned this pour months ago, they were hoping the new era would be successful, but that’s definitely not the case. 
 

I wonder if she’ll perform Woman’s World or Lifetimes considering all the hate?

Regardless of her flopping at the moment, she has definitely earned the Video Vanguard Award, and there’s no denying that. And yes, I’ll admit it is rather weird timing

Meh, I would have rather seen Lady Gaga  or even Taylor Swift getting it first.

I feel like the Vanguard award used to mean something but now they just seem to give it out to give it out.  They used to not even give it out each year.

Jlo already got it. Christina has been snubbed over and over for it. **** I don’t think Mariah Carey has even gotten it unless she did in the 90’s idk.

Tbh as much of a fan I am of Katy’s music, there are two people I think should’ve gotten it before her: Eminem because of his contributions to rap music and pop culture along with his MTV/TRL moments, and Lady GaGa because she got popular before Katy did and she’s contributed more to pop culture and has more memorable MTV moments compared to Katy. 

**** as much as I don’t like her as a person, I think Taylor should’ve gotten it over Katy. Taylor has been out since 2006, and I can’t deny her talent as a song writer and her power in the business. Just there are more deserving people that should get it rn over Katy.

However, giving this award to an artist every year decreases the value of the award imo.
