Thoughts on the 2nd version of the 'I'm Not a Girl, Not Yet a Woman' music video?

I can't believe they chose her only on that cliff in the original music video. The second version is so much better. I mean, it's nothing crazy, but it gives the music video way more personality

Can someone educate me why

There's a making of for this MV, she was wearing harness when she first reached out to the edge to test out the position, but then they took the harness off of her, so she was fully on her own in those shots.

LOL the thirsty boys on this site!! Yes, the  picture is of me yes lol (was taken in April this year). I had dropped 60+ lbs and hadn’t been that tiny in years so I guess I got a little excited and made it my profile pic haha. I don’t look like that anymore though… I do ro.ids now and workout 5-6 days a week so I’m less lean and more built now. Maybe I should update it lol.

I like this version too. The mountain shots still trigger me because I'm scared of heights lol but it's a new fear since I went hiking and almost fell off of a mountain.

I don't know the specific "why" of each version, or why those scenes, etc, but for what I've read on the archives of worldofbritney, the video originally, or technically came out first on the Britney: The Videos DVD

I don't have that DVD so I ignore which version is that, but I assume it would be the one from YouTube. This was on November 2001.

Then, on December of that year we got Overprotected in Latin America, and a week or so later, Making the Video of Not a Girl in the US, which premiered the version you have in OP, with the bedroom scenes. It's blurred on this video, but you can tell it shows the other scenes.

 

I also ignore which version was played on TRL, but worldofbritney then mentions the third version which includes scenes from Crossroads, which premiered during a different tv show.

 

So maybe the one that only shows her at the cliff, was a quick edit to include in the DVD, but for MTV they added those extra scenes, just to have like the typical Britney video with different outfits and sets. I feel like that's the one we got in Latin America too, but I also remember seeing the one with Crossroads scenes.

I can't assure the one on Youtube never played on tv, but it's hard to tell. Back then it used to be one of my least favorite videos of her, so I never paid much attention

My brother used to say that she was pushing up her bewbies near that camp fire and it made her look cringey 

I love the earth tone- yellow vibe of this music video. And it was also a cool idea to make her visiting the movie places.

This is not an actual version. Someone edited the video outtakes from the Crossroads DVD and edited it out with the official video. That is why it's not cohesive and you can see Britney lip syncing to nothing on some bits.
