If 2023 Britney posed topless in the book cover people would be mad but it’s 2001 Britney so there's no issue from the public?!

This is something I've said for the longest time. Noone ever had an issue with Britney posing nude when it was for the male gaze and for profited people, because Britney has always been very open with her body. Toxic is celebrated as her most Iconic video, Womanizer was celebrated, nude illusion costumes onstage were celebrated from 2000 and all throughout her career. Her body was always something the public took as grounds to comment on, whether it was lauded or ridiculed, and this is before we mention the conservatorship, and how her body and sensuality were used to make her family richer; whether it was the Criminal video, Touch of My Hand Performances etc.

The only thing that changed was that Britney decided not to do it for any other reason other than her own fun, and exercised her sense of control over her body, not in a professional music video that profited people, and that's the only thing that changed...

People never had an issue with the previous, so why have an issue now?

I feel the book cover is perfect in that sense, because it creates a juxtaposition between Britney then and Britney now, and it's still her.

No. She could take professional pics in 2023 and no one would care. People hate her IG noods because she looks terrible (hair, makeup, poses), the quality is bad and the poses are tacky instead of tastefull like they used to be.

This.

Some will say these photos are like the same 🤡:

You can't really compare a beautiful professional picture by Herb Ritts to those she's been taking herself for the last couple of years. I feel your point of view is a reflection of what mainstream culture looks like today: "Women can do whatever they want, patriarchy needs to die!!!111".

True, patriarchy is a bad thing, and women should do whatever they want. However, "taste" has nothing to do with being able to freely express yourself. The pictures Britney Spears takes are tasteless and awful. If it was a man, we would say the same thing.

This! Some fans are so deluded as to why hers are seen as tacky now.

I don't get it, like are some people blind?

It can't be more obvious to see the latest nude pics are completely tasteless

Taste is subjective. Anyway you need to understand that u cant juge people from your situation or position, everyone has a different story, let alone britney who has a story that no one else has lived in the world. Not only she has one of the biggest music careers ever but what she went through is so unique in a bad way that no one might ever understand her actions, as long as she does thats really all that matters.

things that might look odd for people could be beautiful and liberating for others, its all subjective to their stories.

In addition to liking the picture, do you think Britney intentionally chose an old photo where she's posing like she does on IG topless to prove this point?

And? I don't give a f what people says, most important is her story, book cover is cool choice, let her finally do what she wants to do without judging ❤

Look, everyone has different tastes, so I’m not bothered by people who don’t like those pictures, what I’m bothered by is the people who insist on being cruel, nasty, ********* about it. Just say you don’t like them and leave it at that, there’s no need for the myriad of mean insults!!

Taste is subjective though, and it is based on one's experiences, and is influenced by the world around you and the structures in place. It's essentially the same justifying the hate as opinion.

I mean, yeah, but in general, her being nude/topless has always been a thing. The problem is, as a celebrity, we/the GP have this idea of what she's "supposed" to look like.

I think it would have been cool to use a photo from those shoots she did at home in 2018/2019/2020. The ones that the photographer did.

Were you around during Britney’s prime? She got a lot of backlash and criticism, even then, for showing too much skin. In fact, that’s a big part of why the anti-Britney train began.

Like a user stated, Britney could use a professional photoshoot but for whatever reason, she doesn’t.
