Why did they cover a “Bratz” song for Britney Spears’ “Circus” album?

Recommended Posts

Britney Spears’ “Circus” album track “Out from Under” was a cover of a “Bratz: The Movie” song by Joanna and til this I didn’t find the answer WHY this particular song. Out of all the songs out there, covering a “Bratz” song is random.

Do you think they were contractually obligated to cover/promote it? I’m trying to understand the vision. spacer.png

Idk, but I find it interesting that it became a minor radio hit in Sweden and Ruzzia despite not being a single.

It’s a very cute song, but I don’t see the vision. Moscow’s closeted gays love Out From Under. :queenflopga_pink_sass_walking_away_bye:

I found it odd that I heard it on my local radio stations a lot that ‘08 Christmas season when I very rarely heard any Britney songs.

I heard it come on at an after school thing and I was like “…MOM?!”

:walkin_fire_meltdown_burning_flames_panic_mess_exhell: Also I genuinely like her version, I find her vocals to be quite nice on them. I get why some fans are confused but I mean, at the end of the day it’s not even one of her weaker ballads

i don't know if it was an obligation, but given the lyrics it probably really resonated with britney at the time

Britney was not out from under at the time nor recovered to pull off an entire album by herself. They forced her to fake an image only to get away with a certain narrative. I don’t think Britney was interested in doing Circus, rightfully so. Probably it was some cash involved on covering that song, it’s team CON we’re talking about… :nicki2_minaj_awkward_nicki_ooh_welp_well_look_blonde_hat:

the song talks about getting things figured out when they're out from under. "i don't wanna feel the pain, what good would it do me now? i'll get it all figured out, when i'm out from under"

i think britney believed doing circus would be the proof she didn't need the con, she said this in her testimony. we have videos of her in the studio looking very into what she was doing. do i think it was her idea from the start? no. but i do think once she started she put her all into it. unlike britney jean.

The lyrics related to her is the only thing I can think of, because the song is awful and embarrassing. The original song sucks, there was no reason to cover it.

There are plenty of songs that could’ve fit tho. :fakewow_selena_surprised_shocked:

The song is another double entendre about being out from under someone a la G.U.Y so it fitted the Britney brand and the false narrative of Circus, "we need this song for Britney!!" the label execs must have been ecstatic :gagasmile_smirk_lady_pink:

I understand what you’re saying, but what were the chances for Britney to know this song? We all know she loves covering songs, but why wouldn’t she cover a Janet song? This is suspicious. :beynah_beyonce_talking_telling_preaching:

well britney says she loves barbie movies, maybe she liked the bratz movie too :orangu_orangutan_ape:

she gets people sending her songs all the time for every album, she could have heard the original version and liked the song and wanted to do her own. i feel like if it was some team con obligation it would have been promoted more, made a single, etc. instead of just being a track on the album :outwithit_go_on_wave_britney_femme_fatale_ff_documentary:

Good points, but having Britney Spears cover your song on her highly anticipated comeback album was a big deal in itself. The album sold half a million copies, spawned three big hits and a mega successful world tour… Britney was THE clout back then so that was enough promo for a random song. This thread is giving me headaches!:nyheadache_miss_ny_new_york_tiffany_annoyed_head_rub_irritated_red_tired:

I think Guy Sigsworth was the culprit.

He did My Baby, and he probably was like "I have this other song too", and perhaps Britney wasn't even aware that it had been released as part of the movie soundtrack last year

When she talked about it, she just mentioned it as a ballad Guy Sigsworth did
