Why was Britney’s fan base called the Britney Army and not Spearits?

I’m just curious… I’m not being shady or anything negative in anyway at all. I just want to know where the title “Britney Army” came from and why it was “Spearits”? I think Spearits sounds so much more unique… does it not?

i never heard spearits  personally i don't like any of the "fan names" for celebs

i'm like 90% sure britney army came from will.i.am when he was describing how her fans are/defend her

I do agree that they are lame and I don’t claim to actually be a part of any of them. I get that Britney Stan’s defend her no matter what (and I am no exception), I was just wondering.

It definitely came from Twitter. I do agree it's not the most original name for a fanbase though. Especially knowing BTS fans are also called "BTS Army".
