Spear's 2001 Effort, 'Britney' US sales have FINALLY been re-certified but at an underwhelming 4.7 million copies (Excluding Club Sales). Why didn't the album perform as well in the US?

I don't know. Maybe it had something to do with the clubs not reporting sales in the way the RIAA (the American organization that tracks music sales) requires?

Neilsen never allowed them to chart.

They literally had their own catalog number over the upc.

C for cassette

D FOR cd followed by their catalog number.

They were manufactured for the clubs only using their own versions of the masters.

RiAA allowed this towards certifications.

Despite the era having garnered massive international success, selling 1.5 million copies in its first week, and earning 15 platinum certifications globally, why wasn't its success replicated in the US?

Not that I am suggesting that the album was a flop for her in the US, but I was genuinely expecting the album to have sold over 5 million copies in the country alone but this...Is kind of underwhelming.

Would love to hear all of your stances on this. Lemme know! :sendinglove_kissing_heart_love_blowing:

This album is in my top 3 from Brit.

See how that works?

It doesn’t work because literally no one’s taste is superior - taste is entirely subjective

How did the album compare to sales for that year. That’s really the question, I believe it was in the top 10 best selling albums that year

It performed very well. It sold 7 million copies and was the 5th best-selling album of 2001. Additionally, it sold 10 million copies by December 2002.
