I stopped with cigarettes but I'm a bit depressed now

Recommended Posts

yeah, I don't smoke since late January this year,

everything is cool, my focus is on the gym and play tennis, cool distractions

but I don't know, like right now I'm really craving it like, it's the best distraction to have

and everybody smokes, even celebrities, why stop,

I feel like I need medication now, to easy that cravings and also help with me wanting to eat a lot,  sometimes I diner 3 times

If I go see a doctor, what medication would help me?

I don't want togo without knowing anything

Wellbutrin is an Antidepressant and Smoking cessation aid...

There's also SSRIs Such as celexa (which is what I'm on, they don't help with nicotine)

When you go to your appointment your doctor will decide what medications are best.

Whatever you take out from your life, it needs to be replaced with sth else. If you took a bad habit out, you obviously need a healthy one. If you're already going to the gym, that's great, but it obviously is not replacing what smoking did to you, so try digging deeper into WHY you smoked, WHEN, with WHOM; and then try to replace all that with sth or sb else. If smoking was just sth to pass the time, then you don't need to take (another) sport but a hobbie or sth to relax/unwind. Maybe sb to talk to or have a nice time. You also need to access that new thing relatively easily or quickly, just like lighting a cigarette is. I'm sure you'll find sth out, all the best to you, and congrats on all the improvements!!

Just got on semaglutide and it has helped hunger cravings immensely, it’s actually helped a lot of people quit toxic habits like overeating, drinking and smoking. I’m a smoker still (in moderation but still) so I’m hoping to see it dwindle down. So far so good though. It can be expensive but it’s worth the investment 100%

@bitbitboi comment is really good imo !

Also, eating more and feeling a bit depressed are normal symptoms when you stop smoking, it will stop eventually in the futur so don't loose hope ! :hugs_madonna_britney_ftr_2008_circus_hugging_friends_support:

Not sure but I think depressed is because your body is missing what smokes gave to it, and eating more is your body replacing the fact you used to have something in your mouth. (sorry if my phrasing is bad I'm not used to this kind of topic in english. :nervousney_thinking_britney_looking_up_hands_face_clasp_ftr_for_the_record:)

I'm not a smoker, but I have a friend who can tell himself that he wants to quit and really quit for several years. I think it is important to have your own interests in your free time, a lot of exercise and a reasonable amount of food. Withdrawal symptoms can last up to a few months, but then you'll be beating yourself up about "why you should smoke again"?

Fingers crossed for you, and strong nerves. I understand that it is not easy for you. And I am of the opinion that some medicines will not help you. The main thing is to say NO and hold on.

I stopped smoking four months ago.

It was way easier than I thought it would’ve as I was very determined after several failures over the years.

Except I discovered one of the withdrawal symptoms was extreme sadness.

I literally cried helplessly nonstop and felt extremely depressed.

I did not link it to withdrawal at first but a simple Google search enlightened me.

I realised nicotine gums lifted the sadness instantly.

After a few weeks I stopped feeling sad and I have gums left with no use for them anymore.

Hang on, the sadness will pass and you will feel so proud about yourself

I smoked for 15-16 years more than half my life, but I knew I needed to give it up so I finally did with the patches which really helped me because there are different nicotine levels and it eases you off of them which is great and I haven’t looked back since.
