The chorus doesn't really sound like Taylor fff. It's okay. I never really cared for Rihanna's version though.

I will tell you something, I hope people don't get upset with me, but Taylor Swift has many limitations in terms of vocal range. Her songs are good and I listen to her almost everyday, but the truth is that female pop singers that really know how to sing live are very few and to name some of them I could mention Adele, Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey and obviously Beyoncé. The rest are just good or lucky. Forgive me if I forgot somebody.

I never really cared for this song but Taylor sounds too sad in this. Rihanna have it life. I didn’t mind Taylor on the chorus though.

In the Lover diary entries, she writes about Nothing New during 2012, so I believe it was written then. This is of course assuming her diary entries are not fake.
