What are your best ways to save money monthly?

Recommended Posts

1. Minimise subscriptions

2. Keep your phone for longer before replacing it

3. Don’t chase labels / brands

4. Catch public transport to work

5. Bring your own lunch to work

6. Don’t eat out too often or order Uber eats

7. Wait a week before buying anything expensive. Don’t buy with your emotions.

8. Shop around for the best deals (eg high interest savings account, best value insurance etc).

9. Rentvest: buy where it’s a good investment, rent where you want to live

10. Set aside a certain percentage of your pay for investments like stocks etc

11. Cancel all your credit cards.

12. Live within your means.

13. Find the right balance between living for the now vs living for the future.

14. Buy groceries in bulk where possible.

15. Review all your recurring expenses and figure out which ones you can cut out.

Edit:

16. Never EVER buy a brand new car. You literally lose thousands of dollars as soon as you drive out that car dealer.

17. Pay off all your debt with the highest interest rates first.

Can you explain this more?

It’s much easier to live within your means if you’re not relying on credit cards. A lot of people see credit cards as “free” money they wouldn’t otherwise have, which causes them to spend more.

Minimize eating out. It's expensive and unhealthy.

I don't buy anything unless it's "perfect." Is it something that is the perfect thing for what I want? Like a pair of shoes. Are they just the perfect shoes? If not, why bother? I'll wait until I find the perfect ones.

And just not buying things in general. I'm a minimalist, and I always get compliments on my home because it's clean, simple, cute, and modern. It's because I don't buy stuff.

SOFI - I invest $100/month into a SOFI automatic investment account.

Cash Back Credit Cards - With the exception of rent, all of daily purchases and monthly bills are made using a cashback yard. I mainly use Discover  and Amazon Prime's Chase cash back rewards.

I use a bunch of those advices and also recommend to buy things that last long or can be used in any occasion like clothes and shoes. Try to look for minimalism advices on youtube and you will find other nice hints. Investiments are a way to create an extra income, but you will need time to make your money start working for you.

If you decide to buy something, hold your purchase to the next week, sometimes you lose interest on it or find someone who can lend you depending on the type of product you are willing to buy, books for example.

  • 1 month later...

I usually strive to save on the fact that I cook my own food, these are my biggest expenses, besides this I don't go to restaurants or clubs (this is not interesting to me either) but anyway every month I manage to spend more than 500$ on simple living. Besides this I usually get walmart gift cards at work, but I don't need them and I found this source https://casinosanalyzer.com/online-casinos/walmart-gift-card where there are all the casinos that accept this payment method, I really liked it because I like to gamble.
