I didn't like it when it first came out. I love it now. The "Femme Fatale Tour" version is my favourite. I liked the Erick Right version for a while before that too.

It's definitely a song of its own time and hasn't aged well, but it sounds very unfinished and half-baked. The song doesn't go anywhere and there is no build-up. A catchy chorus driven by repetition, yes, but there is no bridge.

The distorted vocals throughout sound an excuse due to Britney not getting much studio time/a time crunch to get the single and album out.

 

Definitely agreed! + the bridge is like recorded for the first take and so boring.

About Circus album:

Vocals and production sounds very basic and soulless in most of all album tracks. That's because it's just Britney's "comeback" album without Britney's soul there. They just literally used her for voice and nobody asked her what she really want.

I will admit Britney is basically talking through the verses, maybes she’s rapping, maybe she’s giving the bare minimum…

Her voice is definitely heavily layered and auto tuned with other background singers joining in 

Regardless it’s a great song!

It's one of my least favorite singles of hers now but I was into it at the time. It's not a BAD song she just has much more interesting material so it is far from her best.
