not surprised at all... it's not commercial at all, it doesn't have what it takes to be a smash success on charts nowadays, and i say it from a position of a stan. But i'm 99% certain she was aware she's wouldn't smash the charts with this release, it was more or less a record she needed to make for herself, rather than for the GP. Still hoping that she will put out something in vain of her previous albums (i'm thinking maybe the expansion on the rock and roll sound she touched upon on Warrior and Rainbow, or going into this throwbacky early 00s pop-punk/pop rock sound).
100% Britney should have won. And the past 25 years show why. People will try to argue about Xtina being a better vocalist... but the award isn't for best new VOCALIST, it's best new ARTIST. Xtina's first couple years of her career was her label literally trying to copy Britney and her success, even Xtina has talked about how her label tried to force her to be something she's not. Britney's impact and legacy as an artist is much greater than Xtina's, and even in that one year, Britney was much bigger than Xtina. People just didn't want to take Britney seriously. Xtina is good, but Britney is an Icon and changed the industry.
