In the case of a phone - When I copy a direct link to an image, it should have https......jpg /....GIF /.....PNG...... (but it can happens that the website also generates an image from of normal links without the image format ending)... And if I copy the link from my notes where I have my favorite GIF images URLs, I put "paste as text" in the window and window generate image from it.
