"Rock Me In" is Britney's worst song on Circus 👄

I like Rock Me In as a bonus track. I feel like I’m out of step with a lot of the popular opinions around Circus:

First, Mannequin is the masterpiece here. Lyrically defiant and empowering, it’s like a Rhythm Nation-style track done in 2008, with the production echoing the lyrics in putting up an emotional shield. Brilliant.

Second, I don’t really get the Mmm Papi hate. It’s a bop. Is it because of the rumors of who it was written for? Personally, I’d swap it out for Dangerous, one of my favorite of her unreleased tracks. But I’ll still rock out to Mmm Papi.

Also, I like Unusual You a lot, but I don’t get why it’s so revered in the fandom. It’s really sweet and unique, but the lyrics aren’t my favorite and the production makes it sound like a demo to me.

Blur is phenomenal and wayyyyy underrated.

Amnesia bops, but the lyrics seem a bit lazy.

My Baby is sweet, but doesn’t really fit the vibe. I would have made it a bonus.

Phonography is addictive and I would have loved if it was on the standard release (along with Dangerous, Trouble, and Amnesia, and move Mmm Papi and My Baby to bonus and delete Radar so it can stay in its brilliant spot on Blackout).

Rock Me In always reminded of like a song that would’ve been made for the Austin Powers soundtrack. Like a Madonna “Beautiful Stranger” sound. 

 

I think Rock Boy is a weaker song. I always skipped it.

Rock Me In definitely brought the album down for me, that and MmmPapi and Radar #2.

I love Photography! RMI though was a bonus when the album was released not even deluxe.
