Maybe because he met her in person? I don't know about Janet but about Madonna there are many who say that she is unpleasant...

It could be that after talking to Britney and watching her old videos as he says he started to like her... Let's not forget that he invited her to his after party in 2014...

I wouldn't go as far as saying he hates Janet. Madonna, maybe. He's criticized the lip syncing and said he wouldn't pay to go to Janet's shows because of it, but not that he hates her music or her as a person. P!nk and Gaga have said similar things about other artists, and both of them very clearly talking about Britney at times too... despite claiming to be big fans.

Elton dragged Madonna for lip syncing (which she only does sometimes, and that's normal for dancers). What artists like Britney and Madonna do is largely different from what Elton does when he's behind his piano during shows. People can get a bit arrogant about that. Ultimately I think he does respect Britney and her talent even if he would disapprove of certain aspects of her career, mainly her lack of live singing.

We know she's lacked confidence throughout most of her career and especially after the conservatorship.... Cause she told us as much. 

If he has helped her find some confidence in herself and as an artist then what's wrong with that? Recieving help is not a sign of weakness, and neither do I think that's what he's been implying.

I know she holds a lot of negativity towards her career because she was forced at times to do things and didn’t have the control she always wanted, but Elton is right, hopefully this does bring her back.  The world is hers now.  She can find so much love and passion through her art and reconnecting with feelings that she had prior to the conservatorship.  She was so happy with her involvement on Glory, she can have twice the amount of control now.  Not trying to be a selfish fan, but it is HER RIGHT to reclaim the passion that was HERS.  And make her career what she always dreamed of it.  The biggest FU to them is continuing to be loved and successful without them.  While they fail.

I always took him in that interview to be talking more about the music production that was popular around that time, and not Britney's artistry specifically. It's probably moreso a criticism of the likes of will.i.am., etc. I also think at that time that a lot of people had biases against the use of auto-tuning and production effects at that time, Elton John being one.

We have tons of evidence with HMC that Elton John respects Britney as a singer, an artist, and especially as a recording artist. I think he chose his words poorly in the past but I don't hold it against him or assume it's his stable opinion. We all say dumb **** sometimes.

Right, that perspective is normal and reasonable for anyone, especially a pianist like him. It does get a bit different when a performance revolves around serious dancing. It's disappointed me how, IMO, few artists, if any, have been serious dancers since Britney. There was Madonna, then Britney, and I thought someone else would pop up. Guess not.
