Was Britney really planning an alter ego in 2004/2005?

There are probably hundreds of Original Doll threads here but I can't recall this subject being mentioned recently. 

In late 2004 Britney said that Mona Lisa would be the lead single off The Original Doll.

Also, Britney directed the Do Somethin video and I believe she credited herself as Mona Lisa.

 

I remember reading somewhere that Mona Lisa was supposed to be an alter ego of Brit's. 

 

Does anyone know more about this theory?

It's been a trend in pop culture hasnt it?  Madonna, Xtuna even Britney herself I kinda remember her staff called her Elvis in the Out All Night MTV Special so, besides using an alter ego it's more about making a themed era I guess
