Adele Faces Backlash for Postponement on Vegas Residency

Angry backlash from disappointed fans and skepticism over the reasons behind Adele’s cancellation of her planned Las Vegas residency have cast a shadow over the singer’s career. It’s left some wondering if her acknowledged massive stage fright has made it impossible for her to continue performances.

While fans have been largely forgiving in posts reacting to Adele’s online announcement of her postponement of a Las Vegas residency scheduled to run on weekends through April, others have not been so dismissive.

Most questions center around the timing of the announcement, coming a day before the scheduled start of her residency. That left many fans who had flown in and booked hotel rooms with no alternatives, and many said they couldn’t afford to return for whenever the shows would be rescheduled. But some music industry professionals noted in reports that axiom of show business that “the show must go on,” pointing out that Adele’s show was abot her singing and not flying with a harness or other spectacular production.

On Friday evening, fans lined up at the Colesseum at Caesar’s Palce at the just-opened “Weekends with Adele” merchandise store adjacent to the venue. Some sang her songs, while a lucky few were tapped to do a Facetime conversation with the singer.

Fans who had a concert ticket with them at the merchandise store received a gift tote bag with an Adele T-shirt, magnets and specialty keychain. The boutique will reportedly continue to offer the apology gifts to ticketholders for a while.

While the gifts and facetiming were a nice touch, some industryites pointed to past cancellations as a harbinger that the shows would never be held. Adele has pulled out of planned US tours in 2008 and 2011, citing family issues and vocal problems. She also canceled two London shows in 2017, promising to reschedule. She never did.

I mean... I find it very questionable that she only announced the day before that there were "production delays". How the hell would you even do staging at the venue if everything isn't there yet... like the day before?

She deserves it for cancelling it just one day prior to its opening night. Not that it's surprising that she'd do this; she also cancelled a ton of shows from her 2011 tour. I guess history repeats itself.

Well she said they tried their best to make it work. Figuring out how to make it happen but they couldn't. It would be still illogical if she would announce it 2 or 3 or 7 days be4 . Like u still have some days for a work to  be done. But  i feel for a ppl already booked hotels and plane tickets. Not only her tickets should be refunding but also hotels, plane tickets. Ppl paid to come to vegas to see her not to stay in hotel and then go back

I’m so tired of these greedy entertainment corporations that have you wrapped around their finger. Funny how if you buy a ticket and can’t make it due to reasons beyond your control, you have to suck it up and be out the money, but an artist cancels on you, then you still have to suck it up and foot the bill. It’s ridiculous.

One day, these terms and conditions on tickets will be brought to light and I wouldn’t be surprised if laws are passed requiring venues to give X amount of days of notice to cancel a show before making them liable for their attendees’ costs. It’s turned into abuse.

It’s easy for Adele because she has insurance companies that help pay for costs to the production of the show but fans are still left in the dust. Now they have to spend money twice for travels to come back and see a show.

Throwing this out there in the universe: Adele is and will be seen as a sellout.

i never saw why people became obsessed with her and then she gets a surgery to loose weight when before she claimed not to care... Her cancelling on fans who spent so much money is unfair . If it were production issues it should've been announced at least a week before boot the night that's ridiculous. If she truly cared about her fans she would've just stuck it out with her singing in a her chair. Then postponed the rest.

Dua Lipa cancelled her House Party Package today because she would have to interact with fans in close proximity, but she didn’t cancel her show, still refunded us the difference between that package and the next package while still honoring the House Party package exclusives (one piece of signed merch and goodie bags with exclusive merch.) She performs two months from today, but it still gives fans time to either request a refund or still go to the show. A day before? Unacceptable and I doubt she found out her entire team got Covid that late.
