A big night for Barbados and Rihanna!

• The county officially became a republic as it broke ties with UK and Queen Elizabeth. 
• Inaugural president Dame Sandra Mason was sworn in during a ceremony headed by Prince Charles.
• Rihanna was also honored with the National Hero Award shortly after the Caribbean island nation became a republic

According to reports, Rihanna is the second woman in Barbados history to be named a "national hero", first being Sarah Ann Gill who died in 1866.
