Britney being praised for speaking out by an expert Doctor.

A leading doctor and trauma treatment specialist has praised Britney Spears for how she’s handling her conservatorship battle, and how her speaking out could help others.

In June this year, the pop star, 39, appeared in court in a bid to be free of the guardianship she has lived under for the last 13 years, with the star wanting her father Jamie to be removed as her conservator.

The legal arrangement was put in place in 2008 after she suffered mental health issues, at involved her professional affairs being managed by a team of people that she pays, and her personal and medical matters also governed by others.

‘I’ve lied and told the whole world I’m okay and I’m happy, Britney said in court.

‘It’s a lie. I thought just maybe, if I said that enough, maybe I might become happy, because I’ve been in denial. 

‘I’ve been in shock. I am traumatised.

Dr Eugine Lipov, Chief Medical Officer of Chicago’s Stella Center, has praised Britney for standing strong, adding: ‘She must have an extreme amount of anxiety, stress, self-doubt.

‘She’s probably finding herself very anxious, her mind wandering, and then she is doubting, “Am I losing my mind? Am I worth anything?” A lot of that is connected directly.’

On the added pressure of fame, he continued: ‘The pressure to perform, the pressure to be the best, and the pressure to not disappoint your fans is yet another layer of anxiety that’s added to somebody who’s already struggling.

‘For people who have been traumatised, being powerless over their situation is probably the worst condition to be in for the long term.’

Britney’s conservatorship was put in place for the singer in 2008 after she was placed under a 5150 psychiatric hold amid concerns for her mental health.

She had refused to turn over her two sons to ex-husband Kevin Federline, who had sole custody of the children, after they visited her Studio City home, putting Sean in the car with a bodyguard and barricading herself in the bathroom with Jayden. 

Emergency services were called with police, fire trucks and ambulances arriving at the property, and multiple helicopters circling above.

Around this time Britney was seen behaving erratically publicly on a number of occasions, including infamously shaving her head at a Los Angeles salon and attacking a photographer’s car with an umbrella.

A grassroots #FreeBritney fan campaign has become part of the zeitgeist in recent months as her devotees call for the Circus hitmaker to have autonomy over her life once again.

Britney’s father agreed to step down as her conservator last month but the rest of the team and the arrangement is still in place.

Her lawyer has since filed court documents claiming Jamie is asking for $2million (£1.4m) in payments before leaving his role.

Dr. Lipov noted the importance of Britney raising awareness around mental health and the resulting struggles by her speaking out, and he suggested other celebrities doing the same could have a global impact.

He has called on stars to put on a Live Aid-style concert for mental health, in a bid to get people to start taking issues such as post-traumatic stress disorder more seriously, particularly now as we are ‘connected as a planet under stress’.

He explained: ‘There is a long history of celebrities getting together to save the world or save Africa, and people understand the power of celebrity.

‘If celebrities can get into that business they’ll literally save thousands of lives, and that celebrity will have a marked societal level impact on a global level.

‘That’s why, if there is a concert of 100 celebrities who have all been touched by PTSD, saying I’ve been through that and, if it happens to me, it could happen to you.

‘This could have global implications, especially now as we become more connected as a planet under stress.’

Dr Lipov is best known for his treatment of PTSD using the stellate ganglion block, an injection-based technique that seemingly reboots the body’s fight or flight response by resetting the sympathetic and central nervous systems to a pre-trauma state.

Britney can be the voice of millions around the world about these issues. Especially these days where younger think being famous is a goal in life which is clearly not. I hope she will use her celebrity to help people around the world and awake a lot who are blinded by Hollype**wood.

Love this, I feel empowered to speak my truth bc of her bravery. I have to journal each week about traumatic events in my life and read them to my therapist every week and I think of Britney reciting her story every time. She is queen of the universe in my eyes and deserves all the happiness and freedom.
