Welp you tried to claim Baby is better mv then Formation. Whilst 10x more iconic, visually is not better than Formation.

Anyhow who cares what some intern at Rolling Stones says.

Ok but let’s be honest Madonna is thee Queen of Pop, like that’s not really debatable I could understand frustration with that. And to even have Gaga before her or Whitney or Mariah or Janet or Britney is laughable.

I agree Madonna was the queen of pop, that’s indisputable. But she hasn’t really been relevant to pop music for a long, long time, just my opinion though. She definitely paved the way for people like Britney and Gaga, but I feel going off the last decade, they both (and others) greatly surpassed her. At what point does the crown get passed on? When she dies? Idk

The debate on the king of pop never gets discussed it will always be Michael..

But for queen, the double standard and hypocrisy does show. This one is always up for debate. Kinda funny how Michael's status will never be changed he doesn't even have a prince of pop.

I’ve never thought about that actually, good point. In terms of men, I think Michael was/is the only real male force to be reckoned with within the space. The amount of time enduring hit songs he’s had, his iconic music videos and the sheer influence he had over future generations is a hard act to follow. I think the reason Michael’s status in pop has never been contested is because he’s yet to be bested by another male. Obviously his counterpart in the female arena was Madonna, it would be ignorant to deny her influence on our generation’s pop females, Britney in particular.

The only reason I contest Madonna as “queen of pop” now is because she has fallen in relevancy and far from dominates the space anymore. Most current female pop artists I like always seem to mention Britney when questioned on who inspired them but again, that’s a generational thing.

Anyway, the arena is big enough for everyone and it’s all down to personal taste. I do think however we should at least recognize people like Britney as one of this generations most influential artists, because she is.

She definitely is, she did help pop come back, but if anything I bet you she would be like Mariah Carey and say I'm not a pop artist, I'm more R&B, I was forced to do pop music, because it was expected in terms of teen pop, and eventually my conservatorship.

She would probably say I never wanted to be pop, the industry forced me cos of what sells and white artists are pigeonholed as well cos they can't do r&B music cos of industry politics states that's a black artist genre.

I saw this yesterday but my flop *** is only seeing the thread for this now. I haven’t seen the Formation video so can’t comment on it, Beyonce does have some pretty good music videos like Single Ladies and Run the World (Girls).

But it’s baffling to me that Formation was ranked first over other iconic music videos... I guess it’s their opinion though.

Yes! I feel like most of her unearthed tapes and early demos were geared more toward R&B. Her natural voice is more soulful like that, and she talked so much about wanting her music to have an urban influence. I’m praying she comes back once she’s free and does it all her own way

Poor Beyonce, Despite not being Number one, Madonna has the most appearances for a female which, is expected considering she's The first female they endorsed..

#3 Vogue

#31 Ray of Light (her only video to win video of the year)

#59 Material girl

#90 Justify my love (which they said without this Video WAP wouldn't have happened, 30 years later)
